i was thinking of using a golf cart Speed controler

anyone

Why not simply run a separate electrical system for high-voltage loads? Run an alternator capable of being regulated up to 18V or whatever you want to use, and keep it totally isolated from the vehicle's 12VDC system...very straightforward.

Since you're not competing in nationally sanctioned events, I assume you could run the voltage as high as you're willing to risk the amps :D

Its looks like it could work, as long as the ESC can handle the amp load and it provides clean power. Just make what ever you're controlling the ESC with doesn't go bezerk and dump 24V+ straight through. :)

good point :( might just be easer too get 2 - 8v Trojans and call it a day ?

was looking for a way to avoid having to load & unload 100lb batterys

I have not looked into it much so don't call me stupid, but I have wondered about running a 12v power supply near the engine then step the voltage up and run it back to your amps, step it back down. There is a loss factor there, but it would not be from your wiring if you use high voltage. Anyway, when you step it back down go to 14v or something instead of 12. I read about high voltage DC lines that carry MW of power then convert it solid state back to AC local, got me to thinking about it. Also I imagine you would need battery or at least capacitors where you step it back down, for whatever voltage you use 12v or higher. Interesting if it could be done, but then again I don't really need it in my car. Seems like someone would have looked into this.
