November 29, 200717 yr Author thanks guys, im passing the info along and ill let you know what he says after he tries all this out.what will having the speakers out of phase with each other do to the sound? only one sub hits at a time i guess? Edited November 29, 200717 yr by dropkick13
November 29, 200717 yr It may increase the output, both subs will still play at the same time. One will be moving in while the other moves out.
November 29, 200717 yr well while waiting on sean about this in phase / out of phase stuff.... Kent, any easy way to test if the battery is acting as a good filter or not?battery load tester....or drop in another battery.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
November 29, 200717 yr Is this a regular box? If you run out of phase with no partition in the box wont it just be like an isobaric IB install? Seems like it would have no power handling mechanically, and no bass when to the sides of the drivers. With a partition it may work, I don't like boxes like that and have never made one so don't know. I would swap a different amp on it and see what noise it has, that may change noise if it is from the amp or block more/less of it. Edited November 29, 200717 yr by sqguyib
November 29, 200717 yr parallel out of phase means you wire the two subs in parallel except you switch the positive and negative around on ONE of the subs.Check the ground plane on your HU too is it a pioneer HU? might wanna try grounding the rcas to do this stick a pice of wire so that it gets piched between the outside casing of your rcas then ground it to the HU

I'd start out of phase and then try in phase but either way depending on the box the response will change.

I'm headed to his house this weekend so I'll try out everything that has been recommended.not sure on the head unit by the way, looks like i really should have just thrown one 10'' in there. Oh well....live and learn
November 30, 200717 yr Sounds like a good passive radiator project.unless you already own both drivers
November 30, 200717 yr What me, keep reusing all the old junk I have around here? Never.....I just like to face my subs in the same general direction most of the time, not really sure why. If I ever studied it, I forgot by now.

Which we all know needs to have the drivers wired out of phase for the push pull effect. But the subs aren't causing the noise he has. Time to check the wiring
December 2, 200717 yr I'm really at a loss as to how you could think that wiring the subs out of phase with each other is going to help anything. The only time I would consider that is if the baffle for one of the subs completely sealed the cabin from the other driver which as mentioned would then be an isobaric IB setup. Based on the pics of the box, that is not nearly the case. I could only foresee an out-of-phase wiring setup causing a lot of cancellation in the box and an almost total loss of listenable output. As ramos mentioned and I mentioned earlier, it still has nothing to do with the problem.
December 2, 200717 yr Author Well my brother was called in on emergency so I was unable to check out his setup. Unless he is able to scrap together some time himself to check things out, I won't be able to check things out for another two weeks. In the mean time, wanna take bets on what the problem is?-bad battery-need to wire out of phase-amp clipping-bad wiring-ground
December 2, 200717 yr bad battery, wire or ground...as mentioned earlier..phase isn't the issue.might be bad amp.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
December 2, 200717 yr I would change the amp, guessing it is that or wiring for it. If it is a power or clipping issue it should be obvious. If it is an open box inside I don't think it will hardly make sound out of phase. I guess it could be a bad sub but you said electronic noise.

Next time I get home I should have another amp to try out as well
December 5, 200717 yr I still think it could be the rca outputs that have a bad ground. Is it a pioneer HU?
