Hey all, I'm new here, was wondering if i could get some friendly advice. Im lookin at getting my first system in a few weeks for my '01 taurus, and i cant decide whether to get the type r 12 or a fi q 15...i know it would be a big difference...but i dont know if the Q would be an overkill and more bass than i want, not to mention take up way more of my trunk ..i can get the Q from a guy on caraudio.com for 240 shipped...or the R for like 130 from sonicelectronix.com, should i spend the extra $110? would probably be giving either around 1000w..any advice/sugestions?

My vote's for the Q...what's the rest of the system?

Type R's are only rated for 500 watts. So you could buy two Type R's and use the full potential of your amp, or go to the Q which will be just as loud, if not louder, and sound much better.

well right now i just have stock speakers, and a sony CDX-GT710, it makes it sound alright...but i want to just get a sub setup because i might be getting rid of my car in a few months so i dont think i want to put in new comp speakers if i do end up selling it

Well IMO the Type R sounds like crap so it isn't a very hard decision. Get the Q.

im going to cast my vote for the Fi Q as you can NEVER have too much Sub

but then im Excessive... or OCD or something like that

So i think im gonna get that Q...but im not sure if the box for it will fit in my trunk...its a taurus, and its relatively big...but i wanted to put the box more toward the back seats so i can still have some cargo room...its roughly 37" wide x 26" deep and about 12"ish tall toward the seats, and at the front of the trunk its about 55" wide, 22" deep and around 21" tall...whole trunks about 45" deep...what would you guys suggest?...here's a picture if you want a visual

Should have plenty of room as I run a 15" Q in the GF's Cobalt. 3.5cubes @ 32Hz works nicely for SQ and it gets plenty loud...

get the Q and never thing about type r's again, you will have plenty of space get a nice tuned box, and face it out! ooooo yeeeah and buy that Q stright from scott at fi, hes tha man
