Posted December 7, 200717 yr i'm pretty sure this a must... actually im definetly sure this is a must... is there anything people usually do to break it in as safely and as quickly as possible?
December 7, 200717 yr i wouldn't worry about playin it soft for the first X number of hours. Ive let all the subs i put in wang right out of the box and nothing blew up.but subs and speakers in general DO break in...once the suspension loosens up, it will get louder, and in some cases sound better
December 7, 200717 yr Author so basically i dont really have to "take it easy"... you think it can handle being slammed right out of the packing? it seems like to me maybe the same as a car if you treat it good in the beginning it will last longer in the end...

I think he explains it best:It's all bs. Break-in just stretches the soft parts of the driver and burns off any excess adhesives. A few minutes of hard play will usually be enough break-in any driver will need.A speaker isn't a car. You're not going to damage anything by pushing it hard right out of the box (that is, unless you simply push it beyond it's limits).edit: to answer your questions, yes. just dont go beyond the speakers thermal or mechanical limits. and dont send a clipped signal, speakers don't like them.
December 7, 200717 yr when i got my 2 15 bl'si emailed scott and asked him the best way to break my my subs, be said. and i quote " i would simply play them" scotts tha man
December 7, 200717 yr Author Thank you everyone for your help... flakko that sounds like the easiest way to do it and probably most sense making... ill just play it as a normally do i just wont push it beyond its limits.. thanks for your help again
December 7, 200717 yr I agree wholeheartedly with wanging away not being bad for the driver. But if it's a brand new sub/box setup, or you've never heard the subs, play them at moderate levels so you know what they sound like. So when you turn them up more and more, you'll be able to tell when their clipping or distorting. You slam straight outta the gates and you might be hurting them, but you've never heard it to know it.Make sense?
