Posted December 15, 200717 yr I've been tryin to find a set that will owkr well together 2 way active.. I think I've come up with it. It will be run off a old sony mobile ES xm-5046choices (madisound)mid - either SEAS ca18rnx or L18rnx(aluminum) both 7" tweet - SEAS 1" textile dome 27tffn I believe either of these would blend well and work together in a active 2 way.. What do you think?? or WOuld both mids work or would one choice be better?? Thanks, Joe. P
December 15, 200717 yr You could also look at the er18rnx. A bit stiffer cone compared to the ca18.I love my ca18's....but i'm not using them in the car.
December 15, 200717 yr If you have no serious processing the CA will be a lot easier to integrate, but the L18 will have more midrange detail. Have you ever compared a paper and hard surface cone back to back before? They are distinctly different but both very nice drivers. My memory says that you have a 7949, do you also have the pra-400 (IIRC)? Either way I am curious as to what you will have for eq to tame the cone resonances on the L18 and what slopes and crossover points are available in your setup as well. Lastly, your installation locations and aimings would be helpful to know.
December 17, 200717 yr Author I wish I still have both the alpine 7949, and the sony cdx-c90(on the way) I'm still looking for the alpine eq/xover unit. I will probably just buy a audicontrol unit to run active x-over duties. If you know of anyone with the add on units for the alpine ro sony let me know.. AS for speaker placement its pretty well open. I have plent of room in the doors/sails on kicks... WHat do you think of the q-forms kick panels?? are the kind of like prefab boxes(crappy) ??? I'm new to the active comt set. But have been running passive com sets sine the early 90's.. since the first mb quarts All help appreciated.. But setup a x-over right would the choices I made above work well??? Thanks, Joe
December 17, 200717 yr what kind of car?If you currently have no processing you need a very simple driver to implement, the best out the list for that is the CA18 the breakup on the L will kill you otherwise
December 17, 200717 yr Author I currently have a new Clarion eq I just bought recently eqs746 or something close. 7 band parametric. So that will give me a little more control. THe new install will be going into a BLazer, from a Mazima. The only thing I don't like about the EQ, it has ! set of inputs and 3 sets of outputs. That pretty much limits all control that the head unit has. Thats why I was thinking of replacing it with a 3 way x-over for more control.. Or would it be best to go from the head unit o the eq to a 3 way x-over??
