Heres the scoop: I went to put my sub and amp in my car, and was having a hard time getting the box to fit, so I thought I better check everything out to make sure it worked, and the amp keeps going into a protection mode or something. Its a Memphis PR1000.1 I tried to contact the seller because he guaranteed not to be DOA but won't get a return. I guess thats what I get for buying off of ebay  But anyways, I was wondering if people could give me some input on which would be a better amp for my Fi Q in a LSQ installation.

Kicker ZX1000.1

Sundown SAE-1000D

I can get them for about the same price. Any help? Thanks.

The two amps you listed put out their respective power into two different ohm loads. The Sundown makes 1000 watts at 1 ohm and the Kicker makes 1000 watts at 2 ohms. So, your choice is pretty easy at this point. You can only use one or the other and it depends on your subs voice coil configuration. Is it a dual 1 ohm voice coil configuration or a dual 2 ohm?

If it's a dual 1 ohm, the Kicker would be the amp you want and you'll wire the coils together in Series to get a final impedance of 2 ohms.

If it's a dual 2 ohm, the Sundown will do the job and you'll wire it in Parallel to get a final impedance of 1 ohm.

Below is a link to the JL Audio website that has the diagrams for you to better understand how to wire the subs in series or parallel.

But if i were you, i would verify first that your sub is wired up properly to the Memphis PR1000.1 before you buy any other amp. If it isn't, this just may be your problem with it going into protection. If you can tell us the voice coil configuration on your sub and how you have it wired, we can further diagnose if this is in fact the problem for you.

Does it go into protect even while not hooked to the sub? and rca's?

if its protectin with a sub hooke dup check your ohms, if its protecting with no load then your done for,

Thanks for the replies. It is Dual 2, and I wired everything correctly to get the 1 Ohm load. When I wired everything up, I turned all the gains and such down, then turned on my car and as soon as I started to turn up gain, it would click and turn on the protection. When I get home from work I will mess around with it more and check all the wiring a couple more times.

Good luck Bud! And if you find you're in need of a amp, check this out...

I'm running a 2 ohm dvc 15" Q with BP option off of one of them right now and the sub is happy. Very near it's limits but happy.
