my UV neon went on smoke

was connecting my UV neon , with the cig lighter in my car , suddenly it smoked up , n smelled like burned plastic, suddenly it went off, and when i touched it it was very hot... any idea , why did that happen ??

pluse the neon wasnt underbody or anything , it was inside the cabin, n no water or any liquid can reach it ..

thnx for any helpful ideas
