OK.

so I am just about decided on the new sub project. I have a jeep cherokee, with (2)mb quart qsd 6" sets, running of off an orion 8004. I have a optima yellow top under the hood, but stock alt, and wires from alt to bat.

I want....

to run two 15" havocs off of a Orion 2500D. I'm going to run 1/0 under the hood, and to amp. and get ho alt.

my questions are...

#1. How big of an alt. do i really need, as anything over 240-250A gets spendy.

#2. How many/what kind of battery's should I put next to the 2500d? optima? kinetic?

#3. Are batcap's worth a damn(once again, mixed reviews)...? I have heard mixed reviews about the optima's, but Ive had mine for almost a year now without any problems whatsoever. I'm concerned about cheap/lesser bat. giving off fumes...is this true?

#4. should run bigger/more wire to amps?

I just want to do this right, the first time...thanks.

From my view (and yes my car was never perfect electrically) your system is only as good as the weakest link. I'm at work and therefore not going to look at sub specs and do all of the math off of the top of my head. I would say if you plan on running the amp @ 1 ohm. that you will want a bare minimum of 1/0 gauge wire and the 240-250 alt should be fine for musical purposes. As far as batteries, have at least 1 really good battery and you should be fine as long as the car is running. Upgrade your grounds to 1/0 and make sure they are good grounds too.

with that amp, you would need at least an HC2400 battery.

I believe you would be stuck with getting a group 31 battery anyway from anybody.

Now, this one car i had, i had that much power running in it and all i had was stock batt and 200A alt and ran fine for almost 3 yrs before i sold it. My lights dimmed a little while driving, while parked, little worse but no electrical problems. My voltage never dropped below 11.5v either because i had a smart fuse on the power line to prevent a fire in case it ever did.

But you are suppose to have 1 group31 batt in there to do it right with upgraded alt.

What is your real purpose with those for subs? Music, burps...

music, but I want to be loud... I will be going to "local/small" comps

I'm also debating a couple 2500, running a couple 15" btl's... but dont know if I wan to go that far... and what that would need to be powered properly...
