Posted February 3, 200817 yr a lot of these are dual voice coil if using both voice coils, is the wattage is doubled?eg maw-12 , 350 + 350 = 700 if both voice coils used ?or are they 125 + 125 = 350?or does it not matter if u use one or two voice coils = 350 all ways ?
February 3, 200817 yr Author more info i am wonder because the old mtx 2300 amp i am going to use is not 2 ohm stable bridged,600 Watts bridged into a 4 Ohm loadso was wondering about using just 1 voice coil could fry it easy i guess then
February 5, 200817 yr Actually power handling for one coil is NOT halved from the total; its something between 60-80% of the total power rating. This is because when there are 2 VC's, each one loses half of it's heatsinking area because it's touching another coil.Adire Audio had a paper about this.In any case, count on a single coil on a MAW 12 to handle 200-250w, possibly even 300, and I know the driver can THERMALLY handle significantly more than it's rating of 350w, but I'm not going to make any claims as to long term powerhanlding abilities due to a lack of personal experience with one.I was VERY impressed with my friends MAW12 off a 400w JL Audio e1400 in a 1.5cf box @ ~33hz.
