Posted March 11, 200817 yr I have always wondered this and I'm hoping to get it answered. Is there a better way to aim subs? Most people I've seen have had their subs in the front of the trunk aiming to the back of the trunk. But people have also had the subs aim towards the back seats. And I've seen subs aimed to the sky. Is there any advantages to aiming subs to different places? What about the port. Most ports I have seen are right next to the woofer. What if the port was on the side of the box, what about the back? Top? Is this just the way people do it, or is there an advantage of having the port next to the woofer....Any input is greatly appreciated
March 11, 200817 yr People do it different ways for a lot of different reasons.SPL,SQ, and looks. You just have to decided which is better for your install.
March 11, 200817 yr Subwoofer aiming varies car to car.It does matter where you point it, but only you and a meter will be able to decide which way is louder.Moving to SPL & SQ / Competition & Fabrication
March 11, 200817 yr here is the general rule i believe-trunk car- subs and port to the rear of the vehicle.Hatchback\suv -subs up, port back.trunk car-if completely sealed off from the rear, subs and port forward. Now, this is a generalization. the loudest possible direction for certain vehicles in the above categories may be different based upon the equipment you have, the box volume and install basically.
