Posted March 22, 200817 yr I recently decided on CDT ES-07s as my midrange speakers but i was looking for suggestions on a beefy midbass. THe cdts lack much more midbass then my last speakers but the midrange sound is awesome. anyone played with morel or any diy speakers?
March 22, 200817 yr how is your door prepped? i have the Gold Series M6 and it has great midbass, but i know the door can be prepped better ( my job this weekend... finishing my pods and prepping the doors better ). that said the CDT drivers really prefer some type of enclosure to perform at their best. install is everything.
March 22, 200817 yr Author if i dont find anything better im going with a fosgate HX2 8 since i already have a pair. i dont think anything can be bigger then that. They will be in a pod of some sort and i want something sealed not IB (i think unless someone has better ideas) but not a ported setup. I also have acess to both the HD and ES 06+ drivers but ive been told they want a small ported box. Also i will be getting acess to a bunch of cdt nonsense coming soon so if they have another setup that might be better im all ears
March 22, 200817 yr Author oh im not sure if sound dampening was considered in ur preping but there will be something done on the doors in a big way once i get speakers and pods situated
March 23, 200817 yr just finished my doors this afternoon- they 06s sound great-- wish i could try ported!
March 23, 200817 yr ya hows ur setup now? crossovers? sealed?the CDT ES-06 Gold are in the doors running IB. i had Raamat in the doors, but i went back and added Damplifier Pro, Convoluted Foam ( Egg Crate ) behind the drivers and then sealed them up the door best i could with the Damplier Pro. i made a new baffle as well. i use the 3sixty.2 for xover and eq. currently they are crossed at 60-250. the 06s really jump and bring alot of bass forward. i have not really spent any time tweaking them yet, so when i get my pods installed today with the 5.25 and Seas i will spend more time tweaking them.
March 23, 200817 yr Author badass thats really pretty close to what my setup would eventually be assuming i got them. i have some 360.2 processors as well so thought i would ask
March 23, 200817 yr badass thats really pretty close to what my setup would eventually be assuming i got them. i have some 360.2 processors as well so thought i would asklike JIMJ says... install is everything. with what you have i think you should be pretty happy. 3sixty.2 is NIIIICE! two should be awesome... nice 4 way setup?
March 23, 200817 yr I wouldn't try sealed unless you have a hell of a lot of space which won't be easy in the doors. I can't imagine those hx's can play very high, nor would I want to subject my door hinges to that much weight. What frequency range do you expect to want them to play nice to?

I can't imagine those hx's can play very high, nor would I want to subject my door hinges to that much weight. What frequency range do you expect to want them to play nice to?surprisingly im not so concerned with space because my doors seriously have it. To be 100% honest i dont want to use the hxs because i know they wont work so well as true midbasses BUT i dont know chit when it somes to diy stuff and the only midbasses ive sorta tried messing with have freq ranges like a midrange speaker. Im still sorta a noob but im thinking ~250 to 80hz is good. Honestly i really want to be able to hear ~100 to 90hz well and get that punch it gives. So far i havent really found anything to give me that and i originally got the RF 8s because of the whitesheet specs and power handling (plus back then i was very obsessed with fosgate... i still like the company but i realize there are other options) and when i tested them in a random jvc ported home theater box running full range the midbass (100hz or so) was there instead of lacking like im used to. The cdt 07s sounded like complete crap running full range or low crossover so right now i have the deck at 100hz and ~ the same at the amp.Maybe its just me being anal but i can seriously hear the gap from the bass to the midrange (especially now with the better mids they get louder)
March 24, 200817 yr Author cool ill check em out. Running IB actually is a much easier to get the pods done so if the drivers prefer IB then im more then happy running them like that
March 24, 200817 yr Sealed can work, but a nice result is much harder to achieve and pretty much everyone that I have seen try to run a sealed enclosure on their doors ends up cutting out the back to improve the response. Other than the power handling it is really the best of both worlds for a midbass.

March 26, 200817 yr Sorry, I thought the "other than the power handling" portion gave away the fact that personally I'd really prefer them IB.
March 26, 200817 yr Author lol nah thats sorta what i was assuming but wanted to clarify... thanks for the help im probably going to go with either the peerless sls,hds or cdt 06+
March 26, 200817 yr Author ya im thinking so myself... but they are free to try so im throwing em in the mix
