I'm currently running a TC-3K Dual 2Ohm on a Sundown 1500D and looking to make a change. I like the single 15" setup so I'm looking at the Havoc 15". The enclosure would be sealed, net 2.5 cubes, 1.5" mounting baffle for the sub. Looking for LSQ setup.

Any of you have experience with both of the subs or how the Havoc would compare. The TC-3K hits incredibly hard down low but it's just not as "tight" as I would like and doesn't have much of a top end in my opinion. Also I'm open to other subs as well. Budget less than $400.

Ok, this is more of a comment, as I don't have any experience with Havoc. TC3k is a great sub, but I have found that 12" and up subs have some sort of deep bass drag, and I love the sound of 2-3 10"s as they are way tighter sounding, probably cause they don't dig as deep. In my opinion, if you want "tight" then go with 10s, if not, than skip the 12s, and go straight for 15s or bigger. It seems that deep bass drag is like a plague with larger subs even in various enclosures. I listen to a lot of fast music like trance and house. House is alright with any sub, but trance sounds way better on 10s, as deep bass of a bigger sub just ruins this type of music. And of course, I could be opening up a can of worms on the debate of sub size and their speed, but this is not my intention, just my experience.

If I had to guess and make my own pick, which one of the two subs you are comparing is better, I would have to go with the TC3k.

I just installed two 15" Havocs in my truck, I switched from 2 Kicker 10s in a ported box.

Right now they've got 500W on them, the 10's had 1000 and yet the 15's have way more output. I'm waiting for my new amp to manage the 2-ohm load and they will have around 2kW between the two.

The havocs are in a sealed box, approximately 2.5 cu for each driver. I just installed them tonight so I have no real opinion on how they perform, except that I think they sounded pretty darn good amongst shoving the box around in my tiny cab.

Thanks for the info. Let me know how they work out for you. I have plenty of power on tap for the 1 15" with the Sundown 1500D. I guess I'll just try the Havoc and see how much I like it. I can always sell the 3K or keep it for home theater use in the future or something...

You opened up the can my friend. Woofer size does not correlate to woofer speed or what notes it can or can't hit.

It's all box dependent.

I am not talking about woofer speed. Bigger subs always seem to have deep bass drag of some sort on fast music. 10s don't.

Pardon me if I'm wrong, but I'm guessing you just haven't heard a well built 15", 18" subwoofer setup. In the wrong box, 10's can certainly be quite "sluggish" sounding.

Think about rock concerts, using many many 18" or larger bass bins for the substage. And these setups reproduce everything from pop to heavy metal. If larger drivers were inherently "sluggish", there would simply be no market for them.
