Posted March 31, 200817 yr So i've been looking at upgrading head units because I am getting some new components and I have an alpine now and use it all the time with my iPod. I currently have a 9881.So I am thinking of sticking with the Alpine line-up and I was going to go with the 9887 for sure, but now I've seen the 9884 and it seems to have a lot of awesome features.Whats the big differences here?My currents needs I guess are:Imprint technologygood equalizer( im not sure if parametric or graphic is better for me. But either would be better then 9881's)good iPod controlThats pretty much it I guess...I have a pair of 6.5 Koda components coming in soon and am hoping to make them sound even better by upgrading my head unit to add some more functionality.I'm getting pretty set on this 9884, but is there somethign im missing??? what makes the 9887 100 dollars better?
March 31, 200817 yr 9887 is active capable.*not so sure you need imprint, just a funny gimic if you ask me
March 31, 200817 yr Author ahh...active...of courseso I guess the big decision is if I want to do thati've heard good things about the imprintthe main reason I was looking at it is because the shop in my town has the mic and everything so I wouldn't have to worry about buying itit would just be a nice "bonus"...unless of course it is more of a gimic like you said
March 31, 200817 yr The Kodas sound very, very, very, very nice when run actively That's what Nick was using in his 'Teg when I heard it...I was very impressed. More midbass than his doors could handle at the time
March 31, 200817 yr Author lol noooooooowhy did you just say that! now i feel compelled to run them active and spend the extra 100 bucks!!!!ahHH!!!well i have a 4 channel amp I could run them active with right?with the 9887?And then my sub
March 31, 200817 yr i've heard good things about the imprintI haven't heard a single good thing about it, exact opposite.I too wouldn't even think of running the Koda's passive, it would really be a waste.
