Posted March 31, 200817 yr I bought a pair of 3-way 6x9s (pioneer, not the best, but definately better than the stock 99 dodge stereo), and was thinking about adding another pair under the backseat after i get my sub. Would it hurt to get 2-ways (would it sound bad mixed with the 3-ways). I dont see any reason not to, but maybe im missing something.
March 31, 200817 yr IMO real bad. Having multiple comps or drivers playing the same frequency range is not helpful.
March 31, 200817 yr I agree, really bad. Particularily bad if you're going to have them underneath the rear seat; that will destroy your imagining and sound awful. If you want more speakers, I'd just replace your rear speakers with the same model (they are probably a different size) speakers that are in your front doors.
March 31, 200817 yr Author Well i plan on an 18" BL, and i was just wanting to make sure i didn't get 99% bass and 1% everything else, but i guess i'll just keep what i have. Oh and pKelly, i didn't think it would sound bad because they'd be facing out, to where the seat wouldn't cover the actual speaker at all Edited March 31, 200817 yr by QuestionMan

Although stock speakers in cars are no engineering marvels, they aren't engineering failures. Or, think about it this way: If you were at a concert, you wouldn't have your back to the stage, correct? Thats what your doing by putting speakers (not subwoofers) behind you.If you have a proper front stage (the speakers in the front of your car), ie. a component set (a midbass speaker, usually ranging in size from 5.25" to 6.5", in normal applications, and a tweeter, both of which use a passive crossover that is provided with the component set), that is powered by an amplifier, with, at a minimum, your door sound-deadened, your front stage will be plenty loud enough to keep up with most any subwoofer application. Rear fill (the speakers in the backseat of your vehicle) are usually unnecessary, but alot of people like to throw them back there anyways.
March 31, 200817 yr You'd be better off to sell what you have upfront and upgrade those.I second that. It's verry unlikely anything will keep up to the BL but, if you have concerns now, it's not going to get better. Adding more speakers behing you also will be 100% washed out by the sub and actualy make everything sound worse.
