I hear you there, doors are a pain. Some have had good results with something like a peerless 8", a good woofer not a sub. They are not as deep. Too bad nobody seems to make an 8" shallow sub, if it could go higher that might work well in doors. Hope I can pull mine apart soon and measure it out, but first I'm going to try deadening them up with the 5x7 comps. I just can't pull myself away from a stealth install with this or I'd go for it....just too much time I don't have and a little door/screwy door panel that would be tough to make good looking.

Contour. Kick panels hardly exist in it either, no place in dash to mount. About the only thing is the mirror cover on door for a tweeter and stock speakers are kind of low in door but fairly large. I think I could fit a 6x9 in there or 8....but no place for mid.

Thats why I absolutely love hertz space kl8 mid-bass drivers. They are like 1.5" thick and you can actually mount them above the speaker hole (1") spacer and still behind the door panel in doors and they are extremely kick panel friendly too (or atleast when you are talking about cutting wheel wells and aperiodic vents etc).

ya i really wanna try out the hertz stuff... loved alot of what i saw at ces and if we became a dealer i would be the first in line to try it out. But sadly i dont see it happening so il probably just do peerless midbass drivers

I love my audio-shop. We have hertz, audison, DD, image dynamics, pioneer, kenwood, eclipse, massive audio, a ton of diamond audio equipment laying around, all kinds of fun stuff, and a 30 minute drive gets me access to RF, mbquartz, jbl, kicker, etc... so all the big names are close by. I am also friends with quite a few fun people, a guy in mass with a yugo that does like 152.7dB's, and my personal favorite audio car is Jeff and Kristen's Image dynamics camaro... and well of course there are my cars, lol.

I dug up a pair of old (but perfectly functional!) Peerless 831759 drivers today. They're 10", 4 ohms and fairly shallow. I'm going to build a dummy box for them to see if I should consider using them.

Look at hertz space series 8" midbass if you want thin, I think it's a wopping 1.75" deep (probably less)

I'm currently running a Soundsplinter rli-8 (s4) driven by a Sundown 100.2. I just dropped in the Sundown last night (got it on the sale) and wow what a difference compared to the Rockford Fosgate 325.2 that I was running. Loud and culeeeen!

Since this is just an 8, of course it has trouble going down low low with any real punch. Not a complaint, it's a freakin 8 and I can't believe what it is capable of. So I'd like to drop in a Soundplinter RLP D2 w/ a Sundown 1000D.

Question:

Will I be better off just letting the 12 do all the work, or could I get louder by running the 12 from say, 20-50Hz or so, and the 8" up to 80Hz or so? I'm not looking to get rid of the 8, but overall this will affect how I plan my layout in the car trunk and I plan to do some custom fiberglass for the enclosures.

As some additional info, I'm running good XOs. I've got a computer processing the audio using BruteFIR to do linear phase crossovers.

Seems to me you would be best off to run about 50Hz and up all in the front if possible, if not then low as you can. I tend to fade the subs higher (try to get the roll off just below the fronts) so they help without being localized, but some don't like that. If you have no bass in the front that does not work.

Hertz is dead against internet sales. find a local dealer or call around. i am looking at a set of either Space 6L or 8L ( if i can fit the 8... going to be tough ). i have talked to Norm at Speed Sound and i gotta tell you... i love this guys service. good dude... old school.

would the low bass increase that much thou from just using the 12 LPF at 80?

from our experimentations....you can localize 50Hz easy.....that is why the Team SSA Camry's midbass is crossed "in the 40hz range" and the sub "in the 20hz range" with differant slopes......

get a midbass that can play low and a sub that can play way down low with authority, play with crossover points and slopes and then you should be able to get up front bass with out putting subs up front.

If the XOs and levels are set OK, I think I would be using the 8 for the range it's best at, then use all the power on the 12 just for the last octave or so (40-50 Hz down).

Yeah thanks on the processing. It's been fun to set up. It's a hobby... so practicality isn't necessarily the issue.

Wow I had no idea... I'd always heard 80Hz or so, but maybe that's become a default more out of practicality than out of reality. Well, hell, you just gave me a reason to build kick panels! haha I'll tell my wife it was your idea.

Audio Obsessions, Albany NY sells them. Although any audison dealer should be able to get them iirc they are the same company.

Anybody use the Pioneer shallow mount subs? Are they good or are they hype? Their 8" has a 2 1/2 inch mounting depth... Could probably jam them into some kick panels...

I've never used them but looked at them a few times. Problem is I have never seen any actual specs on them. The TangBand 10" shallow mount would be applicable. What freq. range do you plan on running?
