I have the 12" shallow mount pionneer in my truck right now. it gets the job done. havent heard the 8 or 10 inch ones, but i believe they might be the same. If you are gonna go for sq, this is most likely not the right sub for you. But they do get loud enough for me (125 db in a ported box, not to great). Here it is in action

I'm gonna do some experiments this weekend and see how low I can get the fronts. The XO I'm running is around 96dB / octave which should help me get them down to 60Hz I'm hoping...

If I can get them to 60, then have my rli-8 take over for mid-bass, I can drop in good quality 12 for the bass from 35Hz or so down but with a less abrupt XO so they'll blend well. Of course once I get my DRC processing going, it'll take care of issues like blend anyways. Especially on bass it is extremely effective.

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll take some pics this weekend and post 'em up. I'd love to get a 15 but not sure if I can sacrifice that kind of trunk space.

Just moving this post here from another thread...

I'm currently running a Soundsplinter rli-8 (s4) driven by a Sundown 100.2. I just dropped in the Sundown last night (got it on the sale) and wow what a difference compared to the Rockford Fosgate 325.2 that I was running. Loud and culeeeen!

Since this is just an 8, of course it has trouble going down low low with any real punch. Not a complaint, it's a freakin 8 and I can't believe what it is capable of. So I'd like to drop in a Soundplinter RLP D2 w/ a Sundown 1000D.

Question:

Will I be better off just letting the 12 do all the work, or could I get louder by running the 12 from say, 20-50Hz or so, and the 8" up to 80Hz or so? I'm not looking to get rid of the 8, but overall this will affect how I plan my layout in the car trunk and I plan to do some custom fiberglass for the enclosures.

Thanks!

I really wouldn't do that, unless you have a pair of them and can mount them upfront. Anything much above 40hz and the localization cues are too strong. It is funny, the real trick in getting a car stereo to sound right is pretty much always in the midbass. Oh, you can get your 8 to play low you might just need a slightly larger box. My RLi8 can get down and boogie.

After trying, I must say its very very hard trying to fit 10's up front!

On the positive side, these things would probably sound wonderful in my truck if I can fit them. I have a few frankenstien-ish ideas :)
