Sry to keep posting these questions but ill try to make it as specific as possible. Mind you i perfer a really warm sounding speaker but i also like detail.

So im doing a 3 way setup with either the CDT ES 07 and the Peerless SLS or the Hertz Hi Energy 165 (6.5) and HV200 (8)

So which do you think i would like more and would have the best SQ

I'm a little confused on your hertz selection. I would vote hertz, are you looking to do a 8" 3 or 4" and tweet.

From what I read you listed 8" and 6.5" which play the same frequencies (for the most part)... Normally you grab that third driver becauxe of frequency limitations of the tweeter. Any time you can minimize drivers the more natural sounding the system will be (without countless hours of tuning).

To put this in perspective, my SQ build in the fall is using an 18" woofer to cover 10-50hz, an 8" driver to cover 50- about 2200 hz, and than the tweeter is taking it from 2200-30khz.

I would personally grab the space series tweeter (large chamber, not small) and than grab a 7" midbass from dls, peerless, etc...

If I remember the pricing correctly though, you are probably spending enough on the hertz components plus the 8" midbass to just grab the hertz space series 8" component system.

Why not go ditch the 2-way component + 8" midbass idea and go with 8" + 3-4" + tweeter ?

Better midrage capability from a smaller driver compared to the 6.5's in the component set.

Since we are talking about hertz and peerless, he should be able to build a more than competent 2 way system to cover 50-20khz.

Indeed I agree completely. Not worth it at all to combine an 8" midbass with a standard comp set.

and by standard comp set u mean a 6.5/7 midrange?

Yes. I believe the sets you listed in the poll have a 6.5" mid.

The point was running an 8 and a 6.5 or larger together makes no sense. If you run an 8, get one that plays to 200+hz and you can just run a dedicated midrange (3-4" driver) along with a tweeter and it will be way better. A-N recommendation is of course a good one.

herd alot of good things about hybrid but never herd a single woofer. 9 bills is a big investment for something ive never herd.

maybe im asking the wrong question then. The whole reason i choose said midranges is because those are the ones ive been able to hear and i liked what i herd. Also the reason why im going 3 way is because i prefer crossing the midranges sorta high and i end up missing quite a bit frequency wise. Unfortunately ive had limited exposure to 3-4" speakers so im really unsure when it comes to them. So i can i assume if i were to get a hi energy 4 or ES-04 they would sound similar to the bigger drivers? What do you think neon i know you've had experiance with the hertz line. Any reviews?

I also sorta stopped being as shy as i am currently with drivers and went ahead and ordered the HV-200 8" midbasses. I cant wait to test them and hopefully they are good drivers.

The only 3-way I have ever heard was the hertz mille system.

All of the high energy stuff sounds good, I have never played with anything between 3" and 5.25" though.

I'm sure it all sounds great.. I'll have to snoop around tomorrow and see what they sound like in free air in my car. It's the best I can do as I don't have a mounting spot for 3 or 4" drivers.

I sorta have a feeling if i can bust my ass and get my car done i would be the demo car for hertz and second skin. (assuming i go all the way with hertz midranges not just the midbasses)

A friend of mine switched from hertz 3-way to a seas L22 + Peerles 3" mid + LPG 26nfa. Very nice midrange response out of the mids

I'm forewarning you. This isn't my old car with quick connects just laying around in various places to test speakers (and dum dum glue (that sticky silly putty stuff)). My thoughts on them will be biased as they will be run off of a factory headunit and being held in place by my hand. (plus I will only be hearing midrange from one side and a hertz deici co-axial will be providing the midbass/tweet on the other side.

Well I got my hands on a couple different speakers today to play with, the HL70 (3") and HV100 (4")... I didn't have an 8" midbass mind you but I liked the mids from the 3" a little better than the 4" and feel it would be the better of the two for your 3way system. Both sounded great, but with the 4" getting down to 70hz comfortably it was interesting trying to blend without any sort of processing. They both have more than an adequate acoustical range to cover the gap between a tweeter and a 8" driver, the question comes are you looking to keep the 8" dedicated to a strong 50-100hz or let it play up to 200hz.

Personally I would go with the 3" but I'm guessing those of us not really into classical music or a flatter sound would go with the 4". It allows you to keep as much bass up front as possible.

Both would work for your application, decide where you want to cross your 8" and than decide from there.
