May 25, 200817 yr Would I fry the amp if I have the Big 3, stock alt, and a 2nd battery if I ran a saz-1500D at 1 ohm for daily?I don't think your stock alt will keep up with that. No matter how many batteries you have, if you play loud long enough you'll drain them all if your alt can't keep up. Low voltage makes amps run hot. So, either get a bigger alt or limit your time at full volume. A voltage gauge would help monitor it.
May 25, 200817 yr Author The longest i drive is about 15 minutes and i normally turn down everything down at stoplights etc. i dont know if that makes it any better?
May 25, 200817 yr get a voltage gauge and watch it. Don't turn your car off if it's showing low with the stereo off. After a few weeks you'll know if what you have is OK or not.
May 25, 200817 yr Author How would an alt like this be? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...;category=33573
May 25, 200817 yr How would an alt like this be? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...;category=33573That looks OK, but I'll ask for a second opinion because I'm not familiar with that source.
May 25, 200817 yr http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...?showtopic=7116That's testing from jacobs car. quote from it: "1 ohm nominal = 1510 watts @ 78% efficiency (voltage fell from 14.3v, to 12.4 volts"That was with a stock (small, 85 amp) alternator, 1000 ca everstart battery, and one SAZ-1500d
May 25, 200817 yr I'll be running an saz-1500d on my stock 117 amp alternator. I just gave you that link as a reference, a voltage drop to 12.4 on 80 amps and a 1000 everstart isn't bad. I could be wrong, but i dont see a need for an alternator in your case (any input from anyone else?)
May 25, 200817 yr would i need to get a bigger alt?I have the exact same question as the original poster, but my only difference is I have a 145 amp alt stock will that be fine with a kinetik in the back and the big 3 running 1500 at 1 ohm.
May 26, 200817 yr Do NOT buy that Alterstart alternator. People who've bought those have had nothing but trouble.
May 26, 200817 yr No. This isn't the "lets see how little we can get away with" game. If you dip your voltage too low, you will toast that amp.Without a supply able to keep up with the demand, it'll happen rather quickly.
May 26, 200817 yr Author is there any alt that youd suggest looking into. and for a 2nd battery what would you suggest. from what i have been reading powermaster is good but what makes it so great to cost about $300? what can it do that the cheaper batteries cant?this seems like a lot of money and time for all of this. do you feel that its money and time well spent? the more i look into this the budget keeps getting closer to $1000
May 26, 200817 yr You're not running a ton of power, so you should be able to get away with an alt on the small side of the High Output spectrum. Look into Iraggi or Excessive Amperage and ask for a 180-200A.
