Posted May 31, 200817 yr Hey just want some guidance and suggestions. I have type-r's which I'm really starting to get sick of. The 6.5 is in stock location and tweeter is flush mounted in the door. All I really want to do is replace it, and not change the locations. I want component set with a passive crossover which has good sound quality. My price range is around $400. But give me some suggestions in the 300-200 price range as well. I know anything will sound better then these Alpines. I need the new tweeter to fit into the hole which is there for the type-r tweeter. The dimensions of the type-r are Tweeter Mounting Diameter (in): 2''Tweeter Mounting Diameter (mm): 51mmTweeter cannot be smaller than these dimensions*These will be powered by a PDX-4.150 (150 rms/ch)Thanks Mike Edited May 31, 200817 yr by sick6ness
May 31, 200817 yr Clarus comps....Hybrid Audio get my vote.....after hearing the L631 combo I am sold on their products.
May 31, 200817 yr Author check into the "group-buy" deal on them in the Hybrid Audio section here on SSAJeez I forgot all about that, Thanks for your help dave
May 31, 200817 yr Since you already have a four-channel amp available, I'd skip the passives and just go active...$300 is a very workable budget, while the Hybrid stuff sounds great with a little careful mixing and matching you can get amazing results for your budget as well Go on places like zaphaudio.com, read the reviews, then lurk on Madisound, Parts Express and other stores. Measure your doors to see what fits. Since you'll be mounting in the doors, good off-axis response might be something you may want to keep in mind. Also, don't forget to prep the door, for whatever speakers you end up with. Multiple layers of deadening, and sealing up any large holes in the inner door skin with rigid materials are two keys for improving midbass response in a door

The reason I just wanted to replace the speakers was because I am getting a new car anyway in about 2 years, and I'm gonna run a 3-way actively.
