This guy at this car audio shop dropped kicker line because he said Memphis Subs were louder is that true? He's selling me 2 15's Memphis PR's with a Ported Box for $289.. Will these be louder than the L7's? or CompVR

id say kicker l7 is better but the comps suck as for memphis i've heard nothing but bad things about em

Edited by LilBlacky

I've never had a problem with a memphis product to date, it's a very good entry to mid-level product. Kicker l7's aren't even reconable and I have heard bad things about their customer service from a shop owner.

Of course what I have heard should be taken with a grain of salt as I haven't firsthand dealt with Kicker's customer service.

CVRs, IMO, have a lot of potential for being such a cheap sub. The Memphis subs will work fine, as long as you tell the guy to tune the box low, unless its a pre-fab. If that's the case, none of those subs will perform to their full potential and may get damaged if your amp doesn't have a SSF.

Will any of those you listed be able to perform in a sealed box good? I prefer sealed over ported

What about the JL w6? Thats probably the only sub I liked best sounds great and its loud.. As for the ICON they seem to be sold out

Memphis PRs can get stinking loud with ease. Both Memphis and Kicker make great products in every price range. I've never had a problem with anything from either manufacturer, so don't hesitate to stay mainstream if you want. There is a reason a lot of people have Kicker, JL, Pioneer, etc. . . They didn't get where they are today by producing crap.

Thats true, The guy thats gonna build a ported box for me said I dont need SSF its a "myth" lol.. and im not gonna take a risk of destroying my subs because my amp doesnt have SSF

You don't need one. Amps were made for countless years without them and subwoofers survived. As long as you're not wailing on them too far below tuning, you shouldn't have a problem.

I'd run without a subsonic any day with any drivers in any vented enclosure. I did it all throughout the 90s, and sometimes even today, and never hurt a driver. It is a useful tool, but not a necessity.

That's a very good point (unless your me and running over double the rms of the driver)

Yes, but someone of your knowledge would not be stupid enough to do this in a possible unloading situation.

True :neil:

x2 on everything tirefryr said.

i will state that in the last three years or so, memphis quality has declined. they still have great customer service for dealers and will warranty jsut about anything, but with some of the crap they are producing.....and memphis prs are the best entry level mainstreme sub a person can buy, IME. the only thing memphis hasn't skimped on yet.

and kicker's customer service for dealers is damn near as good as memphis's IME. quick turnaround times, and few questions, they'd warranty just about everything as well. and if they had an issue, we'd get a call. and the L7s rock. especially for loud, lol.

wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee :slayer:
