Posted July 2, 200817 yr When drilling into the mdf boards, it seems to split every time when i am screwing in i think there deck screws...Can anyone help me out and tell me what kind of screws to get for this project! Thanks,Curt
July 2, 200817 yr I used 1-5/8'' drywall screws and pre-drilled all holes. Minimal splitting, only if I got too close to the corners or too close to the edge of the board.
July 2, 200817 yr I try not to use drywall screws if possible, as the heads seem to snap off really easy. At least on the black kind.1 5/8" is the size though. Look for wood screws or anything else in that length really.
July 2, 200817 yr I dont think the choice of screws is your problem. I use deck screws and have 0 problems. Just make sure you are predrilling with the proper sized bit.
July 2, 200817 yr on my last box i used 2" robertson screws and they worked really good the wood didnt split anywhere (i pre drilled)
