Posted July 8, 200817 yr ok so today me and my friend were taking out his back seat of his z71 to make a new box and he accidently moved his amp when we were pulling out his old box and there was a spark from the power and ground wires touching, so we moved them apart and didnt pay any attetion, but when we put the 15 back in and hooked it up his amp wouldnt come on, buyt the radio did, so we turned the truck off and re-connected the power and ground to make sure and now neither the amp or head unit will work, anyone might have an idea to what the hell is wrong with this thing, o and the head unit and amp arent using the same power wire, but they are connected with a remote wire
July 8, 200817 yr so u say the power wire touched the ground wire?Do you have a fuse on the power wire?Do you have fuses on the amp itself? Now the stereo won't come on?Did the remote wire interfere with this spark because it's not stated if it did.Pull the stereo out and check all of it's fuses, internal, power and ignition.
July 8, 200817 yr Author the remote wire did touch the power wire, and the fuse on the power wire to the amp blew so e are going get that today, bu their are no fuses on the amp
July 9, 200817 yr Accidentally moving an amp and having that happen is seriously shady wiring. Also, it is ALWAYS a good idea to disconnect either your fusing or your battery connections when doing anything. If things were fused correctly you will be lucky and only have fuses to replace, if they weren't well then chalk it up as an expensive lesson.
July 9, 200817 yr Author well we got a new fuse for the power wire for the amp and there are none in the back of the head unit, and we put the fuse in and when we put the power and ground n the amp it makes a huge spark but the wires arent touching
July 9, 200817 yr that's from the power wire touching the terminal. You should always put the wires into the amp before inserting the fuse under the hood. does it work now?
July 10, 200817 yr Author we tried putting te wires in first and when we went to put the fuse in it made a huge spark so he brought it to a nearby place and he said he blew his head unit and damgaged the amp, so now he has to pay 106 to fix the amp and a new head unit
July 11, 200817 yr You'll always get a spark at the fuse. That happens whenever you put a positive charge to something metal. However, it's always better to have that spark be at the fuse than at the amp.
