what type of fuse should i use for the amp to battery power wire (in an inline fuse holder from knuknoceptz). if this helps...the wire is 1/0 gauge, the amp is an saz 1500d, sub is going to be a bl15.

ANL

I have no idea what you can get them for but Partsexpress has the Stinger one for 1/0 that is sealed with O-rings for about $25, and an even cheaper one from PA I think for about $20... Been a while since I looked though.. If you aren't worried about moisture, they have a house brand one that is NOT sealed for under $10.

I think the fuses are $1 or so each..... No idea if this helps you or not..

Fuse size for this application has nothing to do with amp or sub, it is only there to keep your car from catching fire if you short out your power cable. Anything up to 300 amps in an ANL fuse will be fine for 1/0 cable... This has NOTHING to due with protecting your amplifier, BTW...

Also, why is this in Home Audio?

when i went to the knukonceptz site they make you choose the fuse size. fuses blow when they take too much power so i guess i made the assumption that fuse size was dependant on the power of my system. since i'm going for 1/0 gauge you think 300amp fuse should do the trick or should i go 250amp or even 200?

Aren't you supposed to match inline fuse size with the total amount of your fuses, or go one step up.

ie. amp1(60A) + amp2(140) = 200A. So 200A inline fuse is needed.

or..

amp1(80A) + amp2(150A) = 230A. So get a 250A inline fuse.

No, you're supposed to match your fuse to your wire. And match your wire to your amps.

If you have 200a~ of draw, you need 1/0awg. For 1/0awg fuse at 250-350a.

The amps will never draw their fuse rating worth of current. Ignore that number as largely irrelevant.

Find out what your amps typically draw. Size your power wire accordingly. From there you can use whatever size fuse you want up to the maximum rating of the wire. No problem with going smaller unless you are blowing smaller fuses. For example the total of my amp fuses was 280A but I ran a 150A fuse on my 1/0 power wire for3 years without a problem because the amp will only draw its fuse rating in current or more under fault conditions and won't come near it under normal conditions.
