Posted July 21, 200817 yr I installed 3 batteries which one in the engine compartment and another 2 in the boot. Since I owned a small car, I cramped those batteries on the side of the box and its almost impossibel to take them out without taking the whole enclosure with it. So my question is it safe to charge the battries while it is still connected to the amp and the front battery or should I unhook all cables before charging the batteries.
July 21, 200817 yr i allways trickle charge my cells with it still hooked up... when i hi volt charge i simply flip the breaker off that goes to my amp..... its never good to leave a hi volt charger on with your stuff hooked up for a long time... i just picked up my wrecker two weeks ago from the shop.. i had them put a new motor in it... well for some reason some jerk off put it on 12 volt boosty start... FOR THE WEEKEND.......... monday i went to check on progress... and i smelled something crazy..... so anyway... i let them finish up heres a little list of shit thay falked up!2 crank cellsstarter,alt, my cd player my amp my GPS my quilcom. and my back up sensors........

July 22, 200817 yr As long as the voltage on the batteries doesn't go over 14.4V you're ok to charge with the gear connected. Heck, my charger is set at 18v and I ran my gear a few times while charging the battery.
July 24, 200817 yr Author It floats around 14.4-14.6v for slow charging and around 15.5-16v for fast charging. Guess I should unhook them first for safety measure.
