Yes, this is the best option i prefer too.

This lets you play EVERYTHING. You have all the available codecs required to play videos\audio and lets you play quicktime and realmedia in mpc and since mpc is so basic, it's so fast loading and is easy to pull specs off of video files such as res ans fps when doing transcoding.

there is no "wrong" in this situation, just personal preference. I use MPC + K-Lite for everything audio/video except for playlists myself...

I know this is old, but I too use MPC and the K-Lite codec pack. And if there is anything that MPC doesn't play, I bust out VLC. >:)

what doesnt play on mpc?

If something doesnt play, then you dont have the right codec or filter.

I'm beginning to learn how to transcode 720p and 1080p video now so this should be fun.
