Posted August 18, 200817 yr I've got around 300 to spend on a sub and am looking to get a decent s ql setup. I don't plan on upgrading my electrical so I'm trying to stick around 1000w. I want sq so w/e I choose will be put in a sealed box in the back of my extended cab toyota t100.I'm very interested in the mach 5 subs. How would say a ixl 18 compare to a fi q 18? I'm considering a single mach 5 ixl 18 or 15 with 1000w or 2 mach 5 mj`8's off of 1000. Which setup would get louder? Which would have the better sq? I'd really like to get to the 140db range but I'm not sure if it's possible with only 1000w sealed with these subs. What do yall think?Any help is appreciated. Edited August 18, 200817 yr by Sulleigh
August 19, 200817 yr Hi there,Your question is pretty open-ended. I don't think anyone can provide you with an accurate answer given the fact that all setups are installation dependent. The general rule is more cone area rules over less, with all things being equal. So, if your intent was to build a 6 cube box for example, having two MJ's in there would probably be slightly louder than a singe IXL.On the flip side, I have heard from others that given the same size box, a single driver in a ported box could be louder than two in a sealed enclosure.Perhaps if you provide a bit more info, folks may be able to respond better...Best,Mark
August 19, 200817 yr Author Well I have 10 or so cubic feet of space. So I could pretty much do ported or sealed with w/e I choose. I'd kinda prefer sealed for a bit more sq but I could go either way.Thing with the ixl is that I could always add another if I ever wanted to get louder. Problem is that with two ixl 18's I'd be cutting it pretty close space wise. What's the reccomended box size for two of them(ported and sealed).
August 19, 200817 yr The IXL-18 is a big box driver. I suggest using 4.6 cubes for sealed. This configuration results in an overall Q of about 0.65. Ported, about 7 cubes, and since you're playing music only, tune to 30Hz.If your intent is to have the option to add on later, a sealed configuration would be a good start. You can always change if you feel you need more output.Best,Mark
August 20, 200817 yr Author Guess I'll go with a single ixl ported then. Aren't you like the mach 5 owner(I'm a noob lol, correct me if I'm wrong). If so I'm happy to know that the company I'm gonna be buying from has such great people backing it. Thanks for all the help man.
