Whats involved in doing a MDF roof? My headliner is shot, and i don't want to spend 350 for a replacement headliner.

I think it would be nice cause I could make a console for the roof to mount stuff..

can't u just take the old top off reupholster it and put it back up?

Nahhh.. the previous owner bitch poked holes right up to the roof, its ruined.

Take some 3/4 MDF (or Trupan) and cut it into pieces about 3" X 18", groove it with your table saw so it bends to the roof curve, and use a good amount of GE Silicone II. Coat wood and stick it home, let it dry for a day. Silicone other pieces to these to hold your new headliner or MDF sheet roof in place and once it dries, you'll have a roof thats acoustically dead and not able to be removed without dynamite. When I did my first ride I plated the insides of my blazer's body panels with MDF scraps siliconed in like this (Dynamat was expensive and it fell off in the heat out here) and it worked very very well, but it was obviously heavier.

you got any pics of the mdf roof? i dont think it'd be too bad since roof is mostly flat..

Nah stuff aint cheap... 200 for a tailgate, 250 for a damaged bumper...

ok.

i would try to mend the broken one, rather than a whole new one

or yea find a junk yard

One thing to consider, if you ever plan on entering a sanctioned competition, you'll be placed in a much higher class because of the modification.

Gearstix, I will be doing the back part of my roof in the Frontier this weekend when the new box goes in. I am still using my old headliner (unless I somehow destroy it pulling it out) but I will get pics to show how it all goes together for you. You will have the tightest rattle-free roof after you build yours.

Pics up by Monday.

Thanks mdex,

Its got some nice holes in it. I'd recover it but I don't feel like spending the time. Plus I might make some speaker pods, and a centre console in the mdf one... give me ... space to tailor it to my needs.

250 for a damaged bumper...

Front or rear? If its a rear bumper you can find roll pans for your truck selling for around a 150

As for your headliner...Replace it yourself. Take the old one out use it as a template and pick up some fabric of your choice.

Front bumper, off a blazer that went end over end.

I managed to find a front bumper assembly w/ turn signals, lower valance, 95 composite grille shell, headlights and adjusters, lil pieces of trim and window cranks for 125. lucked out there. ended up paying 200 for a mint tailgate.

just need mirrors and a headliner now.

I'd rather do the mdf.. I'll probably fiberglass it or cover it with something.

The rear bumper was smashed in and screwd up... I'm gunna make a roll pan. I love to fabricated stuff and I got tools for it so no big deal.

Is yours a 94? looks like it is cause of the turn signals.
