What is mean't by an active setup? A crossover built into the head unit?

And Infinite baffle?

Thanks in advance

active setup is when you wire your mids and highs directly to a good 4 channel amp that has the filters youd need to crossover at 2k +. so this means no passive crossovers. just using eq and filters off of the deck and amp. you must have a good 4 channel for instance the sundown 100.4 is very active friendly.

have you tried searching??

Yes I did, and found only many references of people doing both IB and Active setups... There is nothing explaining exactly what it is any where that i've sene through my multiple searches :(

Do you really need a 4 channel amp to accomplish this?

well dpeending on what you are trying to power. you could easily mess up going active and blow a tweeter up in 2 seconds fyi. but usually 1st channel-left tweeter 2nd channel-right tweeter 3rd- left driver 4th-right driver.

Understood. Thank you again for explaining that.

tweetss must be crossed off at at least 2khrz....

Tweet crossover point depends on the tweeter. There are some that can handle a lower point than 2k.

IB is infinite baffle. By definition this is mounting a driver on a baffle without a true enclosure behind it. In a true IB setup, the Q of the system is the same as the Qts of the driver. The amount of space required for that is dependent on the driver in question.

For a 2-way active setup, you need four channels of amplification (one for each driver being used) - whether or not that's from a single 4 channel amp or two 2-channels, doesn't really matter. For a 3-way active setup, you'd need six channels of amplification - again, the number of amps isn't important as long as you have all the channels you need :)
