However with my new setup, I'm thinkin of going with 4 Mach 5 MLi-65s. theres going to be tweeters and x-overs aswell.

I'm going to be putting one in each factory location. the other two will either go in the pillars, in the dash, or somewhere behind me ( reg cab truck, isn't a rear "stage" useless?)

I'm wondering how to wire it up. just been looking at amps online and I'm wondering how it all connects.

I have a Pioneer DEH-4900IB for a headunit, and won't be running active.... just a two way component set.

What components are going to make up your passive crossovers?

Well.. if I don't use the MLi-s I'll be using a component set, that comes with x-over, tweeters, midbass whatever.. something like the PG RSds or CDT CL line...

nm I didn't catch the last line. so let me try to understand this: 4 mli-65's 4 tweeters plus a 2 way component set, all run passive, off a 4900ib? I don't think I'm getting this right, please explain in more detail.

Figure out what equipment you are going to use, because it will drastically change the answer to the question.

Personally, I think you need to start simply... simplicity seems to be lost among some. 1 midrange per side, 1 tweeter per side.

yeah.. I just dont want the rest of the sound to be overpowered by the bass of two SPL-12s...

You can't. Active means filtering is done prior to amplifying the signal. Each speaker needs its own amplification channel & processing channel capable of proper filtering.

the difference between the active and passive is where the drivers are crossed over in the signal path: passive crossovers are located between the amplifier and the speaker, active crossovers divide frequencies before the amplifier. Active setups consist of a good head unit, amplification for each channel (tweeters, midrange/midbass, subwoofer) processor, and individually purchased speakers like the mli-65's. passive setups are component sets, which I think you would be happy with.

and after looking at the PG RSd's x-over I think I figured most of it out...

rcas from deck>amp, amp>crossover, crossover>woofer/tweeter.

you got it check on ebay for Infinity Kappas, you can find a great price on them and I believe they are much better than the PG's. the tweeters are a little sharp for my tastes but you might like them. Proper amplification and they would sound fine with your SPL 12's.

yep those, but check here Ebay I just installed a set in my girls car, sound very good for the money.
