I'm thinking of a pair of W6v2 13.5's sealed. Would a Sundown SAE-1000D be proper to power a pair of those? It's going in a 2006 Corolla Type S. Right now I have a ported Icon 15 powered by a JBL GTO 1201.1 II amp that puts out 1100 watts at 2 ohms and a Batcap 800. I want to switch my system up to a sealed setup and think the W6v2s sound awesome. So I'm going sell my amp in favor of the SAE-1000D and do the big 3 and replace the Batcap 800 with the one of the bigger Odyssey drycell batteries and a solenoid. However, I'm contemplating on what to do for my front stage. Which would be better out of these 3 choices.

Choice 1: A good componant system in the front doors powered by a Sundown SAX-100.2 and take the 6x9s out of the rear deck and have the 2 6x9 cutouts in the rear deck kinda like 2 6x9 ports to the trunk.

Choice 2: Get some good coaxles that can take some abuse and power them off my deck.

BTW, what coaxles can take a good amount of abuse?

Simple steps:

Save your dough and put the Icon in a sealed box.

Get the components and an amp.

Forget the rears.

I want more output than a single sealed 15 though. So a good componant set in the front doors would be a good enough front stage without deck speakers huh? A friend of mine from the forum has a good component set in his doors and no deck speakers and it sounds good to me. Would the sub bass sound much better and louder without the deck speakers being there'll be 2 6x9 holes going into the trunk?

If you haven't sealed the ICON yet.. how do you know the output won't be enough?

The W6's, while good sounding subs.. are just a waste of money at this point.

and why sealed, if you want it to be loud. build a better ported enclosure or possibly a tline of some sort for that single 15 icon. spend the extra cash on a good set of components and run it active off of 100.4. keep that amp if you already got it. its a good amp.

Maybe I will just try sealing the Icon. It's just that when it comes to sealed setups I'm used to a pair of 12s that offer more surface area than a single 15. Wouldn't a pair of sealed 12s get louder than 1 sealed 15? Especially a pair of sealed 13.5s?

I regret going ported. I just like the sound of the flatter frequency response of a sealed enclosure. To me I'de rather do a multi sub sealed setup than a single sealed or ported setup. IMO I feel sealed setups can get loud but sound better. I have yet to hear a ported setup have the response of a sealed setup. I just feel that I miss ALOT of the detail with a ported setup.

The Icon may actually be louder than a pair of 12" JL's. It has 80% of the surface area and 4mm of extra excursion. Plus it is a better driver for getting loud.

I think you should build a different ported enclosure for what you already have. If you don't like the response, I'd be money it's because there is something wrong with your box that can easily be cured with a different one. What exactly is the ICON in right now?

I had my box built to the specs Johncon gave me. 3.5 cubes tuned to 34hz. To me, in order for a ported box to sound almost as good as sealed it has to be HUGE and tuned low. I'de rather have a smaller sealed box that sounds better. I don't think it would get louder than a pair of W6v2 12s let along the 13.5s. The W6v2 13.5 has 21.6 mm of Xmax and the Icon 15 gas 20.5mm of Xmax. I'm not knocking the Icon in any way, they are kick ass subs, so please don't take it that way. I just want something different and want to switch up. I am also interested in the Xcon's when the come out for a different vehicle. Those look insane!
