I curious to know how you guys determine how many batteries you need to back up your power.

I'm looking at running around 7000-7500 RMS.

I've called and emailed around regarding HO alts for my car, the largest alt I've been able to find is around 250amp

I've seen ppl talking about ca, cca, and ah, but how do those numbers help you determine what you need.

I'm rather new to systems this big, I'm talking more than 1 extra batt in the trunk.

i have two 1800 kinetiks for 3000 rms, if you want kinetik batteries there site has a calculater that well determine how many and wat kind you need, those batts with a 200 amp alternator seems to keep enough power supply for me

Ya I saw that on the Kinetik website, it says that I need a HC1400 (upfront) and 4 HC2400 (out back)

I wonder if I can cheat that a bit (I dont think I have enough room for 4 batteries in the trunk, plus the amps, plus the box).

Maybe something larger under the hood and the 3 HC2400's in the back (it'll fit better)

wat kind of car are you puttin it in, ive got an accord, and 2 46lb batts, 40lb amp, 50 lb sub, plus all the dynamat lifts the front suspension in my car about 2-3 inches

i would put all the batts together if i was doin it, and the batterys are sealed, so that should make more mountin options

Car is a 2003 Nissan Sentra SE-R SpecV

The suspension is a full coilover setup, so thats covered.

My subs are ~60lbs each pus amps and batteries.

I would aim for overkill not underkill, trying to just get by is going to seriously shorten the life of your batteries and alternator.

If you only want three batts in the back you may look into the d3100(powermaster) only a little longet the the 2400's and a decent bit more ah. From what i understand ah is the main thing you need to look at, that is how long it takes the battery to drian. Look around in this section I have seen people post ah to watt rules of thumb but can't recall them ATM.

If you're looking at daily music, Ah is what you want to cover extended current discharging during long play times. If you're doing burps, you would want to look at burst amps, short circuit amps, ca and things of this nature

The first thing you need to ask yourself is do I need this much music? Is this only a daily driver? Are you competing in an audio event?

If it is just a daily driver, I would suggest that you will likely never really use 7kW of music and be able to drive the car. Since that is pretty much a given, you would not need that much battery power.

On the other hand, if it is a comp vehicle, then yes, you need a bigger car! I am always amazed that ppl try to shove 500 lbs of equipment into the trunk of a mini car. If it is a comp vehicle, buy a truck or van that can handle the load. You will be able to find higher output alts and have the room for the batts you will need to run 7kW.

If you don't have room for the power, you don't have room for the music!

FWIW, to find out how many Kinetik batts you need, the model number is equal to the RMS watts they can support. So an HC2400 can support 2400W RMS. IMO you will need 3 HC2400 + your starting battery. The starting battery will likely be the HC1400R. You will need at least the biggest alt made for that car, but should look into a Kinetik Power Supply for offline charging and maintenance.
