Posted September 22, 200816 yr alright... so i dont have back speakers any longer... . and long ago a few guys here jimjm5 im not gonna name names told me to drop my rear fill. well now i have a sexy sundown 4 channel and and my front is in need of a filling sound. i listen to rap.... so sq is funny for my goals right... but lets talk about it. im gonna get some http://cgi.ebay.com/6x8-5x7-to-6-Speaker-A...1742.m153.l1262 and some deadener.... open to ideas.
September 22, 200816 yr You may as well make those adapter mounts yourself, out of MDF.You'll have to use the Head unit's HPF to help with the crossover duties along with the 100.4's onboard ones. Unless you decide you want to use an external crossover. Or if you want to get a head unit capable of 2-way.And after you decide that, what's your budget?
September 22, 200816 yr A better baffle really helps your midbass, don't skimp on those little plastic things build something out of mdf.
September 22, 200816 yr I still have the template for the 5x7 to 6.5" adapters I made, if you can wait until this weekend I could take the flush trim bit and make another set.

September 22, 200816 yr Considering this is your first shot and midbass will help you a lot. I'd use the Seas CA18RNX. $150 or so for the pair and it will leave you with more than plenty to get a variety of great tweeters to go with them. What sort of mounting space and location do you have for the tweets?
September 22, 200816 yr Author currenty this is the spot my tweets are in im not sure where would be a better place. where is the best place to find those seas
September 22, 200816 yr Right here sir, http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...products_id=823Also, if you want to indeed use your head unit as a crossover, you'll need the DEQ-P8000.http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Pro...DEQ-P8000?tab=A
September 22, 200816 yr With a rather simple mid like that you can get away with just the amp crossovers, although more processing capability never hurts. If you don't mine going large format, here is the tweeter I'd buy although the shipping puts you over budget:http://www.madisound.com/catalog/product_i...roducts_id=1744Peerless HDS
September 22, 200816 yr Author thats a big fuggin tweeter compaired to what im used to and im not sure if i have depth for that... im really not sure if i have depth for the 7 inch seas. but this is a big choice.... and im not gonna spend 450 bucks for that prosseser.
September 22, 200816 yr I thought that headunit had high and low pass crossovers built in to it? I know mine does and it's the P-5900ib

September 22, 200816 yr Author ok ok its cheaper but is it a must!.... like i said i listen to rap... so SQ is not really in the music... i just want a good warm sound. my h/u has mucho settings and shit on it.
September 22, 200816 yr The Sundown can take care of what you need.Smaller depth mid = less midbass. They do make the CA18RLY for that purpose, but I'd try damn hard to fit in the RNX.There are smaller tweeters, but I was spending your budget If you have to go small, the Seas Neo is hard to beat when you are on a limited budget.
September 23, 200816 yr honestly dude, if rap is all you truly listen to then I wouldn't even bother. i probably would just get a nice comp set and the midbass and call it a day.
September 23, 200816 yr Author honestly dude, if rap is all you truly listen to then I wouldn't even bother. i probably would just get a nice comp set and the midbass and call it a day.well show me what you think will work please. i look alot but i have never heard nor seen any for my self.
September 23, 200816 yr hey bigjohn you like your type rs? mebbe upgrade to type x's? JL makes some nice comps, I listen to rap(screw) most of the time and my Orions keep up fine, (I know I coud have done better), what is your spending limit? 150? You like the really high highs? Or a super clean sound?
September 23, 200816 yr honestly dude, if rap is all you truly listen to then I wouldn't even bother. i probably would just get a nice comp set and the midbass and call it a day.well show me what you think will work please. i look alot but i have never heard nor seen any for my self.maybe someone can chime in about the comps..the only comp set that i've had was the alpine type x 5.25's. sounded decent but i know it's better out there. try looking toward cdt, pg, or boston. the last time i heard a boston comp set it sounded good to my ears but that was awhile ago and i don't know if they are still on top of their game.edit:forget cdt i forgot about the $300 budget Edited September 23, 200816 yr by nickeveready
September 23, 200816 yr You should try to look into those: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=1078 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=1138 http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=3591 Hope that helps, Kelvin
September 23, 200816 yr I thought that headunit had high and low pass crossovers built in to it? I know mine does and it's the P-5900ibIt does, if you want to use passively crossed speakers, for this application however, it won't work... well, it will, but he'll have to use the amp crossovers.honestly dude, if rap is all you truly listen to then I wouldn't even bother. i probably would just get a nice comp set and the midbass and call it a day.Nothing wrong with wanting to sound better. And tbh, there is no passive comp set that will be better than running active. At least.. without spending $1k on a set of Dynaudio 360's.
September 23, 200816 yr Pioneer all the way.....at least in terms of midbass + tweets And you have experience with these? Perhaps in your backpack? honestly dude, if rap is all you truly listen to then I wouldn't even bother. i probably would just get a nice comp set and the midbass and call it a day.well show me what you think will work please. i look alot but i have never heard nor seen any for my self.maybe someone can chime in about the comps..the only comp set that i've had was the alpine type x 5.25's. sounded decent but i know it's better out there. try looking toward cdt, pg, or boston. the last time i heard a boston comp set it sounded good to my ears but that was awhile ago and i don't know if they are still on top of their game.edit:forget cdt i forgot about the $300 budgetIf you can't name a decent comp set why do you think it would be better than say the CA18RNX I recommended? On top of that the X 5.25's would be terrible for the application, and the CDT's are way overpriced junk. While there is more hassle with an active setup, in his budget even with just the amp crossovers (which are FAR from ideal) the HDS/CA18 combination will compete with passive sets costing 5x as much. Your comments recommending otherwise are not based on any real experience
September 23, 200816 yr Author and that is what im asking for real experiences...... the type R's were fine for a year or so... but as i age my taste grow. i have alot of money in my lows stage... and now its time to spend a lil on the rest. now more then ever seems how i do not have any rear fill. i must check depth before even thinking about the 7 inch...... if my OEM speaker location was at the bottom of the door i would have more of a chance.. but its in the center... it would be sweet to run a 7 inch mid and a 1 inch tweet active.
September 23, 200816 yr If you can't name a decent comp setDoes Hybrid count? As far as "mainstream" ones go, they're out there of course, but the value is so skewed to DIY it's absurd. Alpine's F1 stuff is great, yeah, but I'd rather have the unbadged SS drivers themselves. Even the Polk SR's probably do pretty well, but a Vifa ring radiator and midbass are a lot less expensive at Madisound and you don't get passive Xovers that'll be useless to you.
