Posted October 19, 200816 yr Okay so i am getting a new system and i have few questions.1. Why would i want 2 ohm subs over 1 ohm?2. If i run 2 Subs to a mono amp what ohm do i want the subs to be?3. Does everyone use both voice coils of subs? Whats the difference between using 1 and 2 coils. Thanks,Drake
October 19, 200816 yr 1. Depends on your amp.2. ^^^3. Running one coil = dead subwoofer Running two coils = bass!
October 19, 200816 yr You match the impedence of the subs to the amplifier. If a sub has two voice coils, there are very few instances where you would want to only use one. Plan on using any and all of the voice coils a sub has.
October 19, 200816 yr You must use both voice coils. The different ohms are to allow you to wire the subs to a certain final impedance that your amplifier is stable too.
October 19, 200816 yr Author Okay, so i am planning on getting 2 FI bl 15's and a SAE-1200D. Is this enough to power them? I want very loud low bass. Do i get the 1 ohm or 2 ohm subs? Do i need more than the stock battery and alternator to run the SAE-1200D? I am planning on using a 2 farad capacitor and doing the Big 3. Will my lights dim or will i not know that until i try it? Thanks again,Drake
October 19, 200816 yr Don't Evereverevereverevereverevereverevereverevereverevereverevereverever Use A Cap. Ever....Ever.
October 20, 200816 yr Author Okay, so don't use a cap but will a SAE-1200D be enough power or should i go with the 3000D? Will i need a new alternator/battery with the 3000D?Thanks,Drake
October 20, 200816 yr With what you want, I would get two fully loaded BL's and the 3000D. Look into upgrading your main battery and also consider a secondary cell.
October 20, 200816 yr i went with three and a h/o to start with... i went thru a few alts, and my amp ran hot.... how i have 5 agm cells and a h/o i have some where like 250 amp hours now... amp runs cooler, no problems at all
