i got a kicker kx250.2 and a kenwood excelon x10d. the kenwood is a class d and fan cooled while the kicker is a class ab. is it ok to mount these upside down to my rear deck. im trying workout a place to hide them easily. any other idea's would be appreciated.

i have mounted kicker amps upside down before!.... they were fine.... for a year or so untill they were sold.

im sure theyll be fine, but probably better if mounted not upside down. they may get a little hotter since heat rises, and the heat will just rise up, and the amp will be there, where the heat is rising

that is what i worried about when i did it... but i had no choice.. it was more for looks then anything else....

but what about making a wood box to hang from your back deck... and then mount the amp upright in a hung box does this convay

yea i think thats what ill do. but ill have to figure out how i will get to the kicker's top mounted controlls with them being on the top. i wont have to worry about it after i go active atleast... ill play around with some idea's this weekend and post the results. if anyone has any suggestions please post them up.

you can mount them upside down, I just think it would probably be better if you could get some fans to run over them. As I was reading I had the same idea as bigjon about hanging a ledge from the back deck so you could mount them right side up. But then you run into the problems with the top mounted controls. Do you have rear speakers? If not, maybe you could mount them so that the amp controls were right through the rear speaker holes.

nope no rear speakers. i like that idea but there are factory grills cover the top of the holes so that wouldnt work out. id like to try a fan. how would i go about it? powering it, turn on and off, etc?

Upside down is fine. If you leave some space between the bottom of the amp & the mounting location, even better. It allows air flow around the whole amp chassis (which is the heat sink).

Heat rises, true, but it also doesn't emit in a downwards direction first either.

okay dokay. ill try it upside down without fans for awhile. if i gets hot ill try something else out. its getting pretty cold here in central pa so it should be fine alteast till spring/summer.

I understand that you're going to try mounting upside down, and that's fine (as I have previously mentioned). I just wanted to point out that you most likely won't be redoing your settings every other day, right? I mean once you pop the grill covers off when you first mount it, set the crossovers and gain where you want it, and put the grill back on, then you shouldn't have to worry about it for..... life, right?

the grill thing on top of the holes are glued/attached permanently to the carpet on the rear deck. i would have to basicly remove the back seat and then life up the carpet to get to the holes.... i really like your idea tho, but its not goin to work in my car.

im goin to try mounting upside down and use some spacers to allow air to circulate around the amp. should be fine for atleast the winter.

oh, didn't know the grills were attached. That's weird. oh well.

ok no problem. ill get the rack mounted tonight and then mount the amps and run wires wednesday after work.

so far i bolted a piece of mdf to the deck which i will mount a larger peice of mdf to. then mount the rack to that.... it will make alittle more sense when i get some pics up.

im not painting anything yet. bare mdf is sexy!!! lol
