I'm looking for recommendations for a sub. I've got a .82 cubic ft custom sealed fiberglass enclosure and a Polk Audio PA400.1 which does 300w at 2ohm - actual output could be a little higher from what I've read. I'm looking to spend under $200. I like to have some "thump" but accuracy is far more important. I had a ID12d2v2 from about 5 years ago but that one's done.

Here's my list so far:

SSA DCON

AA Assassin

RE Adutio SR

JL AUdio 12w3

Soundsplinter RL-i

Polk Audio MM1240d

Any help would be appreciated.

SSA makes a perfect match for you. The DCON. Here's the info on them: http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/dcon.html

Ported: 1.00 cu.ft. @ 28-33 hz

Ported: 1.25 cu.ft. @ 28-33hz opt.

The minimum is .9^3ft. .82 is pretty small, can you make it a bit bigger and then add some polyfill?

It's already complete. It was molded to fit into the side-wall of my trunk to stay out of the way.

Maybe see if you can find a used Stereo Integrity BM. The new version is still a couple months away, though.

could you invert it? this is seriously small. After sub displacment you're looking at .68ft^3. You might be hard pressed to find any 12 that will sound good in that size enclosure.

BM works in as small as .5 cubes. OR.......you could mount an MDF mounting baffle onto the front and cut the size down to fit a 10" sub and pretty much pick any on the market.....

The RE SR12 says it needs .75 cubic feet for an "optimal" sealed enclosure. Would that not be a good choice?

What about polyfill to bring the effective enclosure size up around 1 cube?

Do you already have a hole cut for a 12? a 10 DCON would be perfect.

also 1.2 is for a ported enclosure, not sealed.

So I'm "shrinking" the hole down to accommodate a 10" subwoofer. Still .82 cubes. So here's what I'm left with:

SSA DCON 10D4 - wants .75 to .9 cubic feet

Image Dynamics ID10 - wants .6 to .8 cubic feet

RE SR 12 - wants .5 to .75 cubic feet, but it's a 12" subwoofer, which is a plus.

AA Assassin 10 - wants .6 - 1.0 cubic feet

Help me choose one. They're all between $100 and $160 and they do between 250 and 350 watts RMS.

Choose what YOU want. You can't really go wrong with what you've selected, BUT if it were me, I would choose the Dcon.

You may want to put them into a speaker program, like winISD, to see how their frequency responses vary in that box. While it won't translate exactly to a car environment, you will at least know how they react to that box size relative to each other. Perhaps one has a flatter response curve, or one rolls off quicker at the low end, etc., that you might want to see to help your decision.

I'd say just upload the graph image into here and post it up.
