I came across some Clif Design subs that are built in America.

I emailed them to ask who the supplier is and the tech told me to name a few and he'd give me a yay or a nay as they don't openly give out that info.

About all I know is Eminence.

DD builds their own, right? So that's just DD. Do they build for other companies?

RF has an american plant IIRC. I wouldn't think they subcontract.

Does JBL make some here?

Ther are manufactures on here (SSA)that build their own speakers.

As said over on ca.com.. are you sure it doesnt say "born in america"? could be (and likely is) a VASTLY different situation

Most of the parts are made in other countries, but there are quite a few companies who build their stuff here in America.

Just a couple off the top of my head that Im pretty sure of.

Thier site says "born", but the rep that replied confirmed fairly obviously that they're built here.

Sonic's site says "made".

Last i checked DD parts are American and built in Oklahoma

CLIF isn't built here... hell it's not even packaged here...

it's part of the ANABA corporation (MA audio, Visoinik, thump, Mobile authority, ect...) Anaba has a home in the USA (California office)

I have clif woofers... they're stamped "made in China" (I believe... I'll check when I get home.. It's some country other than the USA)

I'm not saying it IS built in America. i was surprised by the claim as well.

I'm well aware of Anaba's roots, but that doesn't in any way mean they couldn't come up with a product or two that's made here if they WANTED to.

This may very well just be deceptive marketing. I am going to keep looking into it.

If it is, Sonicelectronix is screwing up by advertising "Made in the USA".

*** I do like some of my clif products... for the price I pay that is... I wouldn't pay retail for any of it... The cd1200C's I have don't do too they won't handle a ton of power but with low power they still preform pretty well for a cheap "monster" woofer... they weigh like 45lbs, 3" vc..

The C series doesn't indicate it is built here. Of their 5 series' only the Nuclear's and the Aftermath's have the "born in USA" on the website.

If they AREN'T built here Clif and Sonic are both on the wrong side of some business laws.

thanks. That's the most helpful response I've had yet. Although nothing jumps out at me as a similarity between the CD subs and anything from Atomic. Not that they HAVE to look alike to have come from the same builder.

I dealt with them and the way these places work is that you give them your specs, they give you a parts book where you get to pick your baskets, mags, backplates, etc and they match it up to the specs they were given. I'm not sure who makes CD stuff but they used to be considered high-end when I used to sell them in the late 90's.

BTW -- Are Fi and AA not the same company?? Same building, different suites.

I wouldnt imagine they are the same company for legal and financial reasons. They are owned by the same person, and the some of the subs from Ascendant are beefed up versions of their Fi counterparts. Ascendant is the dealer only line, while Fi is the online version. AA is just the "premium" brand.

Most of the made in America sub companies use chinese motors that are magnetized here in the states. DD actually uses American steel and fully assembles there speakers in Oklahoma. Every part possible that can be American made is but I am almost certain no other companies use American steel and fully assemble the motors in house. And yes Image is not American made

A few years ago Dan Wiggins chimed in on a similar thread in another forum. From what I remember ALL magnets are made off-shore. There isn't an American supplier. A lot of the frames are made off-shore as well. Steel and soft parts do have US suppliers so it is up to the manufacturer to buy American.

AE Speakers (formerly Stryke Audio) has stated he uses as many US made parts as possilbe. Aluminum cones from CA. Steel from OH (I think). Voice coils from FL.

Dayton was mentioned in the first post. The Titanic line is built by NCA Labs in Sacramento. The DVC line is made by Eminence. The rest are from off-shore.

Another US build house is Credance Speakers. They are still selling the old Kicker Solobaric without that name on it. They were the original supplier for that driver.
