February 11, 200916 yr There is no set limit that an enclosure can be off. It all depends on what sound you want from the enclosure. Otherwise, you can have a company recommend, say, 5-10 cubes for an 18. So if you built the enclosure 10 cubes and wanted it to be 5, you're 100% off, but it's still technically ok. But even then, you can build an enclosure 11 cubic feet and not have it be wrong if the sound it produces is what you were looking for.
