Posted February 14, 200916 yr I was looking at the Alpine PDX 2.150 to run the Clarus 61-2 comps. I talked with Scott and he says that the PDX is not a really good SQ amp. He did mention the new JL HD amps. I'm looking for a amp like these that are small, don't get hot because it will be located in the cargo compartment in my Trailblazer.
February 14, 200916 yr Im using a pdx for mine and I think they sound great, but I'm also running them active which made a huge difference over passive.. From what I heard from those HD amps, they aren't good at all.. But Scott knows his stuff
February 15, 200916 yr Author Are you using the internal crossover in the amp? Did you originally run the HAT passive and then switched to active? I have a Alpine 9887 also. I'm ooking at the IDQ 12 w/ PDX 600.1 for substage. Do you think this will be a decent setup?
February 15, 200916 yr There is always the obvious choice of Sundown power. Have you looked into the JL Slash series. Very nice amplifiers.
February 15, 200916 yr only problem I have heard of/seen with PDX amps, is that they blow fuses. That's usually not a good sign, but then again most people push the limits of their equipment without knowing. Small can be nice, but not always an easy find when talking high quality SQ amplifiers. Good choice on the speakers, and really I think PDX would work, although I have not been doing SQ for that long, I have not been able to find anything that puts up the numbers I'm looking for in a smaller amplifier. (numbers such as efficiency, low distortion, and good power.) oh and good design for dissipating heat, and keeping signal areas of the board apart from power areas of the board.
February 15, 200916 yr Arc Mini?125x2That's what I'll be using for my L1Pro/L8 setup. 1 KS125.2MINI and 1 KS125.4MINI
February 24, 200916 yr The PDX is not a bad amplifier. I am just an audio snob. I like class A/B amplifiers for everything, including subs, for their damping, noise, and control. For 99.9% of the population, digital full-range amplifiers will be just fine. There are other, perhaps weaker links in the system, like installatioin weaknesses. In many cars, the digital amplifier will not be the weakest link. Scott
