I believe they are in the neighborhood of 150-160db. I would love to make a "bait car" with one of these and keep parking it in bad areas with the keys in it. lulz

If a nuclear bomb is actually 250ish I'd imagine the only thing louder would be an H+ bomb. I wonder what one of those produces?
February 22, 200916 yr I'm just going to say that lower frequencies require more power and more cone movement, because you are physically moving tons of air to reach these frequencies.SO you would need a) TONS of Displacement b) a lot of energyIn a car audio application, hell even most home audio applications, 150+ dB's at 7hz is impractical, and honestly it has been discussed and proven implausible before, it's a great science fiction weapon, but I have yet to see anything capable of producing this.
February 22, 200916 yr IIRC, LRAD uses high frequencies. Certainly not 7hz tones.I was thinking the same thing. There was that show on Discovery channel and it certainly sounded way higher. Like 3k hz. Which would make sense because that's around where humans are most sensitive to the sound, so it would hurt more.
February 23, 200916 yr i don't know about LRAD, but i know that certain pds are using a new "siren" that does employ ultralow frequencies. the idea is that since so many people claim to not see, nor hear, the squad behind them, but using ultralow frequencies, teh suspect car would feel the squad car. March 1, 200916 yr 1000 db isn't possible. If the earth exploded you would get something that split atoms bit by that point it wouldn't matter.

March 1, 200916 yr I thought the loudest sound possible in our atmosphere is around 190db? I may be wrong but I always heard that once you reach that point the air in our atmosphere can't be compressed any more. I'm sure at a higher altitude more db's would be possible since the air is thinner but nowhere near 1000db's.

It blew in 1883 and sent a shock wave around the earth 7 times. The sound was at 180db from 100 miles away, injuring ships crews in the area, and the bang was heard 3,000 miles away. The sound killed whoever or whatever wasn't burned or drowned. Wasn't a good day.
