First off managed to pick up a 93 civic hatchback for 700 bucks and I would like to know what type of set up would be best, like port direction, sub direction, box style all opinions welcome as i'm pretty sure someone here would have done something like this already.

i will be running a hifonics xxv cyclops 4000x1 i will be running 3 batts, 2 caps. i'd like to have a daily drivetr that can still lay down high numbers as im nearly the loudest in my area already.

i currently have them in a 6cf box ported at 32hz subs firing up port back. im not sure how to get pics on here or id have a few pics to show.

I think sub up port back works best in those hatchbacks.

Get two 12" Alpine type R's put them in a fiber glass casing and turn them upside down :P

i think my 4 premiers will be louder then 2 type r's and all 4 are now inverted.

EWWWWW inverted subs!!! hatchback with 4 subs should be VERY loud!

I pulled 150's with a single 10 in my 92 HB :D

It's all install/design......

my dual 10's did high 40's low 50's (151.0 sealed on the dash was the high for the pair)with a 35hz tuning... great street beater...

ive heard sub forward port up works well to al you have to do is rotate the box if possible.also subs up and port to the side have done well but ive only seen that with a pair of 10's might be hard with the 12's. the loudest thing i can think of for you might be a wall.

for daily subs up port back-or port to the side... I wouldn't do sub forward port back for anything other than spl... in my civic hb it's actually a full db or two lower than subs up port side...

They are inverted too, so that does cut down on some space.

HAHAHAHAHAH LOVE IT, i was just going to say that after i seen the pictures, subs up port back ,, i dislike inverted subwoofers

also uglier.

but then again i don't like subs because the way they look.

DONT LET YOUR FRIENDS INVERT SUBS

wow that's ugly :D

I'm anti-inverted as well.

more port area would be a good start.. Port to the passenger side (one big slot) get the woofers further back (as far back towards the hatch as possible.) I've competed with a civic hb since '03 so I pretty well know the car..

i know the box set up is ugly but it's the enclosure i had used for my olds aurora its actually 2 boxes put together ...very ugly but work well. Why does everybody hate subs inverted does it actually make a different sound or anything? Do you mean subs up passenger side port back? Everything is as for back as i think they can be without choking off the ports. How much port area do you suggest and what tuning works well in a hb?

tuning depends on what you're going for. SPL only tuning needs to be high... your car will peak between 58-62hz.

If you're building for a good street beater 35 hz is a good freq to tune to.

Inverted subs: if competing it can put you in a diffrent class because of their heigth. Inverting results in a slight loss of output on the mic.

If side firing port to the passenger side works well.. if SPL isn't a big deal and you just want loud daily you can run a couple of 6" rounds-one to each side angle them towards the corners. Ports back works well and will be close to the same output as side firing. Side firing is a little louder on the mic.

If rear firing you need to keep the box roughly 4" from the rear of the car (pending on how tall you make the box)
