In the trunk of my car, there are two bars running across the top of my trunk, that attach to my trunk lid, i suppose its there to adjust tension for my trunk lid, will if i remove those i can get an extra 2" height and that will make a large difference for my enclosure and layout in general. Anyone remove these before?

Yankem out. Make sure you prop up the trunk lid first so it doesn't break your neck when it falls. The tensioners are tempered the best way to get them out is with bolt cutters. I couldn't tell you how many I have removed doing 4 packs. They normally get in the way when you do this.

What type of vehicle do you have? Most can be removed by pulling the bars off of the adjustment brackets on the side by the trunk hinge. Normally a pipe 1 or 2 foot long will give you enough leverage to slip over the end of the tensioner get it off the little bracket. Don't even try the hacksaw you'll be there all day. The only thing the tensioners do is keep the trunk lid up. To be sure we are are the same page though post a pic so we can make sure you dont cut your whole trunk lid off.

we are on the same page, this is a 2001 mercury sable. as of now i have an alpine mrv850 800rms@2ohm pushing a single RE sE 12 in 2.5 35" of port 35hz. not loud enough. so i was going to get a pair of IA 187 15s or one Fi SSD 18. im leaning more towards the 15s, sure it would be louder and i wont need to cut those bars out

wow i guess what ever floats ur boat.. i did like the auto trunk though that was sick

All I'l say is that's what he wanted. And he paid me in 2 one gallon ziploc bags of $5s and $10s

To the OP, if you are referring to the torsion bars that hold the trunk lid up, you can remove them without bolt cutters, just be careful because when you pry them out, they will pop on ya something fierce. However, at least on my 97 Maxima, the trunk lid is heavy as hell. I have 2 100# force Strong Arm lift supports installed now in place of the torsion bars, and it lifts the trunk for me. See my build log for pics:http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/forum/i...showtopic=25622

I didn't take pics of the bars before I removed them, but you can see the struts that I replaced them with.

there was some guy from TX (tx plates) in my town (Illinois) riding in his escalade with his hatch and doors open with the music cranked...... really impressed us :D

I DOn't get it either...

Sorry for the thread mis-direction..

***you can remove the bars just be careful... on some cars they can really snap at you when you take them off.
