Posted April 5, 200916 yr I've just got this sub and at first was very disappointed with it and the lack of output and low end bass it produces, it is in a sealed box BTW, so I thought ok, it need to wear it in....so I've now had it running for roughly about 4 or 5 hours in total this week. It seems to be a bit better but still sounds just crap and pathetic with poor low end...especially considering its worth a lot more than my previous 8" subMy previous 8" sub picked up lows very well and had pretty good output for a $40Au ($30 approx USD) sub, I'd prefer it over this monster double stacked motored Rockford FosgateIt just isnt right and distorts really easy and the old cheap sub just puts it to absolute shame, its cleaner, picks up lows and only $30 or so...Might I also add that the new sub is much stiffer than the old one that's one reason that made me automatically think of the wear in period for the RF sub, but its just soo much worse and I really cant see it as normal even though its not broken-in..I really dont think they would sell such a initially crap sounding sub that is meant to be so good......IDK, ive gotten to the point of loosing my mind completely with this new sub i cant even type this thread properly its just soooo crap!!! ahggggOld Sub:http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?I...mp;SUBCATID=396Rockford Fosgate sub: http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/pr...S&p_status=I'll just add, now that I thought of it how they sound different, the old one has a nice mellow low rumbling sound and the rf sub has a more show car sound to it that play crappy techno music, but even worse this sub distots before its even moving as much as it can
April 5, 200916 yr it could possibly be the box that is making it sound like crap, how big is the box its in right now? and how much power do you have pushing it?
April 6, 200916 yr Author it could possibly be the box that is making it sound like crap, how big is the box its in right now? and how much power do you have pushing it?Width: 17.7inchHeight: 11.8inchDepth: 7.08inchWood Thickness (18mm, 3/4inch)Volume: 0.54 cubic feet without sub installedabout 80wrmswhich I know would cause the distortion on the rockford fosgate very easily but It just doesnt hit low and It doesnt actually distort any more as I turn it up from the point it starts distorting and it doesnt sound like a clipping distortion it sounds like the sub is just not capable as i have had it connected to a 12" 400wrms sub and I can definately tell what the clipping sounds like and it gets worse very quickly as you turn it up...Also yes the box for the rockford fosgate is almost 2x recommended sealed box size, but if I made it smaller wouldn't that make it play even higher tuning? I did try adding a few blocks of wood inside about prob .1 cubic foots worth, secured obvcourse and still no improvement plus sub is prob .8 cubic foot displacement at least so ATM it will be 0.36cubic foot after sub and wood blocks which is ok and as i said no improvement still lacks output and lows...lol and also it should be louder considering its running @4ohms as opposed to 8ohms on other sub, and the amp can handle 4ohms because thats what the kenwood runs at perfectly and sound damn nice, well compared to these 8" subs also if it affects a good quality sub so much then how come the crappy $30 sub sounds so great with and without those wood blocks which didnt really change the sound of the old sub, prob a bit worse on low end now as im just listening to black tee by gucci mane right now the beats a bit worseLook im not trying to prove you wrong or dissagree with you or anything, I'm just saying exactly whats happening and wondering why i have such resultsMaybe it just does have to be worn in much more hmmm..... maybe it works better in ported boxesthanks for any imput though, anything!!! April 6, 200916 yr Author What amp do you have, how is it wired, and what are the settings on?home theater active sub plate amp running at 4ohms series 80wrms roughly and its stable at 4ohms as I've written in above replypolarity is correct crossover is set right down which to me sounds best on this amp....and yeah same settings, same songs comparing subs
April 6, 200916 yr What does it lack the most? One warning, you may have just bought into marketing. Personally I am not at all a fan of the p2's...
April 6, 200916 yr i had a ten inch p2 as my first sub and i loved it and it deff hit the lows quite surprisingly. at first i had mine hooked up to only 75 watts then up to around 300 and it worked fine on both setups. like others have said it might be the amp or box
April 7, 200916 yr Author Can you upload a video of it playing? I havn't got access to a nice quality camera....The excursion looks a bit different in real-life on the camera its like it has less in and out movement but i does look cool on the camera, so I dont know how it will be, sound also i dont know, guess i could give it a try
April 7, 200916 yr I mainly asked for the video for the sound. Some ailments have certain sounds. There isn't any air leaking from under the sub's mounting gasket or anything is there? If you put the old sub back in, does it still sound better?
