Posted April 12, 200916 yr Hi, I have cheaper stuff than most of you guys wipe your butt with. Anyways, I have a 2x10" sub with Pioneer speakers that say they handle 50-120w RMS (I know I know, don't laugh) and a 2-channel Pioneer GM-3300t amp that claims the following:Output Power (4 Ohm, <=1% THD) 60 Watts x 2Output Power (4 Ohm Bridged, <=1% THD) 150 Watts x 1Output Power (2 Ohm, <=1% THD) 75 Watts x 2Now, since I am buying a pair of front component speakers, I wanted to hook them up to an amp. The question is whether or not I should use my current amp for the component speakers, or keep the cheapo amp with the sub and buy a new amp for the component speakers. BTW, the subwoofer enclosure is sealed as I listen to mostly rock / metal / hardcore stuff...Any pointers would be really swell...
April 12, 200916 yr Author The subs are Pioneer TS-W251R 10" 4 Ohm... it says no dual voice coil, I'm not sure if that's what you're asking.... these are the specs:Size 10 -inchImpedance 4 ohmsCone Material IMPPSurround Material UrethaneSealed Box Volume (cubic feet) 0.7 - 1.3Ported Box Volume (cubic feet) 0.9 - 1.55Port diameter (inches) 3Port length (inches) 6Free-Air NoDual Voice Coil NoSensitivity 90 dB at 1 voltFrequency Response 20 - 4500 HzRMS Power Range (Watts) 50-120Peak Power Handling (Watts) 600
April 12, 200916 yr I'm thinking if you don't want to spend too much money, just move that amp up front and then buy a new amp for the subs.
April 12, 200916 yr ya id run the cheap-o-amp on the fronts and get a new one for the subs, or sell off your system to a buddy and start over hahaif u already haven't purchased the components look into phoenix gold Rsd comp's if your on a budget.
April 12, 200916 yr Author if i do a new amp, what kinda amp? 1 channel or 2 channel? do most run 2 subs in stereo?
April 12, 200916 yr since they are 4 ohm svc's run them to a 1 channel amp. this is a 2 ohm load and your looking for around 300 rms.another option, but probably less viable, would be a 4 channel amp and bridge 2 channels to each sub... whats your budget for amp? April 12, 200916 yr Author eh, low budget, i'm already looking to buy component fronts and some 6x9s so i don't wanna spend more than i gotta. i would say the system i'm building is low/mid grade.... any recommendations?
April 12, 200916 yr skip on the 6x9s, no real need for them especially in a budget setup. use that money for better fronts or better amps.this guy makes hellz more then rated, check this out(actual power)http://cgi.ebay.com/ROCKFORD-FOSGATE-300W-...%3A2|240%3A1318so if your looking to upgrade subs later u have more then enough power on tap to do it. this is the amp im running right now, and the price is very nice at 115 kenwood excelon kac x10dyou might be able to snag a deal from someone on the forum aswell. if u mean to spend any less then that there are other options, im just not to familiar with the various brands and dont want tell u what to buy without having experience with a product in some way
April 13, 200916 yr Author Cool, very helpful, I appreciate it greatly! You think I'd need 1200w out of the Kenwood amp or is that just for an upgrade path? That seems like it'd majorly rock my alternator, lol. Another question, you have any advice on a wiring kit? Are most people doing 8 gauge?
April 13, 200916 yr You don't have to use all that the amplifier is capable of. If you only want it to put out 300 watts, you can set it so it will do so and it will hardly be a burden on your alternator.
April 16, 200916 yr Author Can anyone tell me if this particular model would just be complete garbage to run my 2x10" sub with? http://www.crutchfield.com/p_108R1300A/Inf...00a.html?tp=115 Edited April 16, 200916 yr by simons81
April 16, 200916 yr Not garbage, not great. Better than that Kenwood that was listed earlier though even though it has less power.
April 16, 200916 yr Author Thanks M5. I have a feeling it'd be a decent match for my low/mid-end system. No point in dipping outside of my pricepoint I guess.
April 16, 200916 yr ive had great luck with these amps ive even run them at lower than rated imp for long periods of time and they still work and its more power than you need and cheap. ebay
