The Shiva will work better for HT. Period. When looking for HT needs, I would never use less than a 15 really. Unless you have a really good handle on what your doing, or plan on buying several subs. What makes you interested in the IXL? Great sub, but now what you want to look for I think.

I wouldn't look at anything else from DIY cable but the Shiva unless you want to up your budget a good deal.

Do you think that two Shiva-x's would be too much for my room, with a O Audio 500 watt amp, or something similar? I think what I am going to do, is get the Dayton SA240 240 watt amp with the Shiva-x sub, then ask for the O Audio amp for Christmas, and maybe another Shiva-x, if one isn't quite good enough, which I hope one will be.

Thanks

MJ-18M for the win! lol. $150

I just bought two MJ18 motors. So basically after the recone, I'm going to have 2MJ18's for $110 >:)

Honestly, I have no idea what I'll do with them, but I'll figure something out!

As rush said, you are WAY out of your price range at that point realisticaly. If you have more money let us know. Is there a reason you want more than one sub? If you have a valid point we can change it up and work with that too. In your situation, it would probably just make things much more complex, and end up being less logical.

We want to help you, but you're changing the rules. It's easy to get excited, and shoot for the stars and go up and up and up but eventualy you run out of cash. Why don't you tell us what the absolute max for budget is. Let us know if that includes the box or just the woofer and electronics.

Well, the price range that I set was just what I could spend, I didn't even think about anyhing else like gifts and stuff. And I just firgured two subs would better since you can split the load between them, so it's not stressing one so much.

The absolute max is $500, i guess, but would like to keep it below $425 if possible. And I would have to save untill around February of next year, and my birthday will help also. And that is without the box and accessories, just the electronics.

What can you do with this? What sub, amp, and crossover, and box type and size would you recommend?

Thanks for the help.

Sounds like you need a job. Its best to learn early on that its not always good to rely on other people.

The only reason I am here is becuase I don't know what to get, cause I don't know what is good, well...somewhat.

I know that certain subs are bad quality; I didn't know that the Pyle amp off of Ebay was bad quality. I do now though, becuase I asked here first, before wasting my money on something that would break and be bad quality.

And I do know that it isn't always good to rely on other people, becuase they could just be saying stuff to make them sound like they know what they are talking about, or they just think that one thing will be better than the other becuase they have it. And, there are people that WILL help others out if they don't know what to do. If I hadn't been told otherwise, I would have ordered 2 Kicker COMPS and be very dissappointed, but now I also know that those aren't good for low frequencies. I have learned a lot in the past 2 days, or whenever I posted this topic.

Thanks

Sorry for the double post wouldn't let me edit the last one. So, should I just get the Shiva-x with the O Audio amp and just save the rest of the $425-500 left over, or does someone else have some other suggestion that could be even better?

Thanks

That's what I would do. That would be a great combination. Just make sure you get the right VC configuration.

What's the right VC configuration? And what does that mean? Ha I don't know very many of the audio terms yet, but I'm learning.

Thanks

It's the voice coils. You'll either need a single 4ohm coil or dual 2ohm coils if you want to run it on the O Audio.

Oh, Ok. Ya I knew what that stood for then :)

If I get this sub, could I make a new box, and hook my 8 ohm amp from my Yamaha sub up to it, if I can wire the sub to run at 8 ohm?

Thanks

Do NOT run it to the receiver. The Shiva is a really good choice for your situation, it has a verry low Fs for being a 12" driver and should be PLENTY loud for your needs.

I would again suggest a pro audio amp.

I'm completely bias when I offer the O Audio amp. I have used it, and I see no other reason in going to a different amp. (Unless I need more power, but 500w is really quite a bit in my house.)

This is a solid amp.

I also am installing a 300watt O Audio amplifier in pair with a 10" SSA Icon for music duty this weekend. I'll have more results for you Monday. :)

This also could work, but would stretch your budget.

Ok. Is the O Audio amp any better than this?

Also, what do you mean don't run the sub to my receiver? I was just meaning using my current sub's amp until I could get a better amp.

Thanks

Not better. Just a different option.

;)

I have never used an o audio amp. The guys here do like them.

I like pro audio amps for sub work usually. That's mostly preferance, but you don't really need that massive power that a rack amp would provide.

That looks the part!

My sub set up will need a little more power, but I have different goals and a different budget from the OP.

I would rather go with a Crown rack mount too. I'm not sure if his budget would allow. :) I have read to stay away from the Behringer rack mounts though. They do their job, but I guess a lot of people have problems with noise and have to buy a BFD. I also read they don't do rated power.

What I read and heard, not my personal experience.

Man, why does everything seem like it's out of my price range? Ha ohwell. Would the Dayton SA240 amp be decent enough to power the sub until I get the O Audio amp?

Thanks

Is this rack amp any good? Or is the O Audio still better? I might be able to spend around $300 on a amp now.

No experience with that, nor have I really heard of anyone who has used it. I'd only buy once If I were you. Pick the O Audio or the Dayton....both will do a good job.

Ok, thanks. Is there a way I could just run the Shiva-x to my Yamaha 8 ohm 100 watt amp from my current sub until I get a new amp? Of course without harming the new sub though.

Thanks

If the Shiva comes with D4 coils, I don't see a reason why you couldn't run it! Obviously, you'll want to upgrade down the line, but for now it will work.
