im not positive .. but i need a receiver to hookup my computer to a home theater setup right? what receiver is recommended for under $500 .. cheaper if possible, just want to get something setup, that can be amplified. i am thinking of 2 xti 1000s.

You really need to restate your question. When I hear XTi 1000, I think of the crown amp. Those cost ~400 new I think last time I checked. Why would you want 2? What is the receiver for?

What equipment do you already own, and what is your goal.

As to your question if you need a receiver to have a home theater, no. Your PC can litterally act as a receiver if you wanted to go that route. It all depends on what you want to get out of it.

Let us know your ultimate goal, what you already own that works towards that goal, and your budget to get there please.
