May 13, 200916 yr Author i started on the daily port i made the flare radius 2" insted of 4" and it didnt bend well at all. im gonna sand down the unround parts, im also only doing 2 sided with flares instead of all 4. this way it might look more hidden, even thought its gonna come out on top of the back seat.more toys from ebay. 100, 80 grit sandin sleeves for a dremel. 7.99 plus shippingthe port cant see the bad kerf though
May 13, 200916 yr Author I finished building up the daily port today. it took forever because the resin wouldnt dry. tomorrow or thursday ill get it wrapped in carpet..depends on if i find any money before payday.i added some fiberglass on the outside to round it out better.but that resin was takin forever so i decided to clean off my workspace and organize the scrap mdfand this is how i use most of the left over circle cutouts then i decided to touch the table saw blade when it was goin... pics arent too good i got a delivery today toosome kicker 8 gauge. ring terminals and a 12pin wiring thing
May 14, 200916 yr Author i got the port carpeted and put grill cloth to cover up the opening. I also put a layer of foam on the top so it will be more comfortable as and armrest for ppl in the back. It looks alright with the carpet, but once i get my vinyl for my door panels im gonna cover the port in the same color vinyl.I also got the box wired up and installed. it sounds great off just the 300 watt from my alpine five channel. Im gonna start on an amprack for the saz3000 soon though. once my alt gets back ill put the 3000 in. the port with its many many bolts takes about 30 mins to get on. and after i got it on i found air leaks coming form the carriage bolts holding the threaded rod in. so i had to take the port off and put it back on... a very boring hour. and it sucks with a hole in my finger too cuz it kept hittin everythin. side not. i tryied to set the amp gain with my oscope, but it stopped workin. i changed the leads and still nothin..
May 14, 200916 yr finally an armrest for tall guys! seriously i'm glad to see your fingers ok, could have been a lot worse.
May 14, 200916 yr Author finally an armrest for tall guys! seriously i'm glad to see your fingers ok, could have been a lot worse.it did come out higher that i thought it would, but it works as for the finger. i was tryin to taper down a peice of 1/4" mdf, towards the end i had the blade up a little over 1/4" so my finger on top of the would got it. but the blade was good and low so nothin real bad. i was a little scared to look at it after it happen. i didnt want to see half a finger. but today i wore a finger condom all day to keep all the saw dust and crap out of the hole.
May 14, 200916 yr yeah it didn't look too bad and i know this is a strange way to think about it but if you'd had one of those safety tables you'd be out a table saw right now and that would probably take a lot longer to heal than the cut you got. but most people don't just lose a little skin when they have a saw run in. how does firing the port in the cabin and the woofer back affect the sound? i've always had poor luck firing woofer/port into the cabin so i took out my rear deck speakers and stripped the rear deck. when i replace my accord with another daily driver i want to remove the back seats, wall it and seal the trunk, and build a little false floor for a battery bank and amps behind the front seat.
May 14, 200916 yr Author i was thinkin about those blade when i was washin my finger off. i wouldnt of been able to finish. cuz i just put one of the gloves i use to fiberglass over my finger and finished working.hahit sounds good so far, but i cant really make a comparison yet because im not using the power i usually use. I am planing on cutting up the rear deck though. Ive already got holes cut for when i put 4 aeros in it, this time im just gonna do a big square and cover it in grill cloth so ppl cant see in the trunk.
May 14, 200916 yr so you're going to fire in the cabin, seal off the trunk and use the rear deck for porting; sub forward/port up? i'm toying with ideas for my wall, i don't want it to go above the rear deck or past the rear seat backrest into the cabin, but it's just going to be in the planning stage for the next year or so. i was thinking i would reinforce the rear deck with a layer of ply on the top and bottom with foam and/or deadener in between. basically i want a wall that follows the same line as the backrest of the rear seats in the coupe. in the meantime i need to get my current setup metered so i have a reference point on how loud it is, but there's no one in my area that is interested in ground pounders, mostly sq guys.
May 15, 200916 yr Author ive thought about doing subs forward and port up through there rear deck. but i got to comps and i want to have an interchangable port tuned higher for better numbers. with the port throught the deck i cant think of an easy way to change out ports. so im gonna do port forward through the back seat and subs firing up through the rear deck. with this box though its port forward and sub back.i need a way to reinforce the back deck thought cuz all the cuttin im gonna do. it already has a layer of dynamat though
May 15, 200916 yr that's why i was thinking to lay ply on the top and bottom sides of the deck with foam between, to make it entirely solid/rigid but that would put a damper on any plans of firing your woofers up. i guess i'm looking at losing the whole back seating area when i take the dive on the full blown setup.
May 15, 200916 yr Author i almost took out my back seat so do a box on top for both subs. but i can bring myself to do that. to many ppl that like to break in around here. so since i decided against that im stuck with fitting a elephant in my trunk pretty much. I have the room, but my trunk openin is to small, so my plan now is to build the box in 4 pieces and an external port. and bolt it all together inside the trunk. im to broke from this box now so i gotta wait to buy more wood.
May 16, 200916 yr Author i built the amp rack and put the sundown in today. I still dont have my h/o alt so the sub is wired at 4 ohms.and a short vid
May 16, 200916 yr Now there's one packed trunk!!!Are you carpeting everything or some kind of paint???
May 16, 200916 yr Author Now there's one packed trunk!!!Are you carpeting everything or some kind of paint??? its just a temp setup i wanted to build for a comp. so im just gonna leave it mdf
May 16, 200916 yr sounds like there's a mechanical slapping in your video but it could just be the camera mic. what comp are you going to, i still need to get my car metered for the first time
May 17, 200916 yr Author i think ive figured out wat it is. one of the pieces of threaded rod is almost touching the sub. so i thing thats wats doin it, itll be monday before i can look for sure.
