Posted May 22, 200916 yr Might be a stupid question but im gonna ask it anyway.I have a enclosure with 2 thread rods running from the front of the enclosure all the way to the back of the enclosure for support. Can i also use these thread rods for a speaker terminals also? I will be running a memphis 16-2000d to a 18" btl d1 voice coils. Will be running in a series for a 2 ohm load.
May 22, 200916 yr Only problem i could see is the rods possibly having some kind of electrical resistance. Only 1,000w for a BTL?
May 22, 200916 yr i have been wonderin the same. The best way to find out is-Get multimeter and touch the farthest points apart on the rod and see if u get any resistance reading on the meter. If that isn't enough, send power through a speaker wire then through the threaded rod and see if there is a power difference.
May 22, 200916 yr Considering threaded rods are usually big in diameter, I wouldn't worry too much about resistance. If there is no risk that the rods come in contact together or come in contact to the bodywork of the car...go for it.
May 22, 200916 yr yea, i have 3\4" rod i'll be using. My multimeter only reads 1\10th of a decimal so i cant give an accurate answer on what kind of resistance it offers.
May 22, 200916 yr Author Ill try it out and see what happens. The 16-2000d is listed @ 2400 rms @ 2ohms 14.4 volts
May 23, 200916 yr even on the mic? What if i over-run wire? If i attempt to run 2-4 8awg wires per sub to the rod and the same amount to the amps... will that help on a meter or is that overkill?
May 23, 200916 yr ok, well i'll add that to my required testing on the meter, hehe.I'll know in about 3-4 weeks.
May 23, 200916 yr Author well my install is going in a daily driver so i think im going to run with it. LOL. I might meter it just to see what kind of numbers im putting up but definately no competitions. I live in east nowhere Georgia so i should be the king of the block anyway. : )
May 23, 200916 yr i think i drove through east nowhere, GA on my way to Florida a few weeks ago because at some point in Georgia, my GPS lost signal and didnt know where i was at for a few minutes.
