Hi. Don't know if there was a thread already, looked back but couldn't find one. I need help.

Alright.

So, not too long ago, a friend that seems like he knows a decent amount about car audio set the gain and bass boost on my amp. My amp is a 1000w mono block, and it was pushing a 15" spl sub rated at 1400rms. It sounded really good, but all of the sudden, it blew a single voice coil.

Obviously, I was upset.

I got a replacement for the sub, the same one, but I just don't want to blow it again. Can anyone help with tuning the amp by gain? And I've also heard to NEVER touch the bass boost. Is that true? Oh, and when setting the gain, should I have my head unit as high as I usually do? And finally, I usually have my head unit at 38/46, and the bass at 0. Is that too high?

Thanks in advance. I know this is probably a uneducated thread, but we all need to learn somewhere =)

Digital Multi Meters are $10 at Sears. Go and pick one of those up.

Then go check out the gain setting tutorial

i see u r in indiana.

I will set your amp up for free if you dont mind driving to Louisville, KY.

I have an o-scope so it will be a lot more accurate.

I'll do that. Never knew how cheap they were. Thanks =)

I'd really appreciate that, but it's a little ways away. I think I'll just start saving money to invest in one. Thanks though

Just to update, I went out and bought a dmm from radioshack, and set my gain correctly, and the difference is ridiculous. It's so much louder and cleaner, and I'm very happy with it.

Thanks =)
