Posted June 23, 200916 yr I just got it from my uncle, it's an Orion 15", it says "The hott set-up" on the front, the sticker is pealed off the magnet so I have no idea how many watts it is or how many ohms the coil is, or even the model number. I'm not gonna try emailing Orion because the last time I did that, they sent me 7 PDFs that were all the wrong subwoofer, and then stopped replying to my emails.Anyone know anything about this subwoofer?I can post a pic if needed.
June 23, 200916 yr Post a picture!I'm curious to see what it looks like with "The hott set-up" on the front of it.Maybe its a funky pup
June 23, 200916 yr Author Okay I gotta ask, what's with the Funky Pups!?Are they honestly crap or are they any good?
June 23, 200916 yr Okay I gotta ask, what's with the Funky Pups!?Are they honestly crap or are they any good?I think it is just a joke kinda thing bro.
June 23, 200916 yr Okay I gotta ask, what's with the Funky Pups!?Are they honestly crap or are they any good? They're crap, like 50 watt subs. If you google them I'm sure you can find something. They're just funny because they're pink and I think orange, and have a picture of a dog on them.As for the hott setup subs, they were Orion's lower line. I think maybe 150 watts RMS, single 4 ohm voice coil.
June 23, 200916 yr I believe they were made in the early 90's and I believe KU40 is correct at 150 watts.
June 23, 200916 yr The Hott Setup was mainly sold at generic car audio outlets as an offshoot of Orion in circa 90-93. This driver indeed have an RMS of 150 watts.
June 23, 200916 yr The reason allot of people know about funky pups is because of the customer reviews some people would leave on the funky pup site. And the fact that they sold funky pups in packs of 6 was pretty funny.
June 23, 200916 yr The Hott Set-up is the name of Orions THS line so your model number will be THS or HS - ??????. This were the poor mans orion series which were affordable to almost everyone. I have 2 THS amps im getting ready to try to sell. If i were id keep it because you dont see too many THS stuff around any more.
June 24, 200916 yr Author I'm actually using it in one of my Cerwin Vega E-315 speakers that I also got from my uncle a while back, one had all the original drivers, the other had the original tweeter and mid, but some messed up fisher woofer that would never stay on sync, and no it was not hooked up backwards, when I would play a 1hz tone through both, the fisher woofer would always be a little bit slower to move, but now that the Orion is in there, wow, huge difference, it actually sounds pretty good. I'll post a pic of it later, the dust cap is pushed in a bit, but it's in pretty good condition.
June 24, 200916 yr Author And the fact that they sold funky pups in packs of 6 was pretty funny.Yeah I think that is hilarious, is there anywhere I can still buy a 6 pack of the 12's?
