Posted June 24, 200916 yr I am getting back into audio after a long layoff. I wanted to know what you guys thought would be the best speaker setup for mid and highs. I am planing on buying the new Zed Audio 6ch 150w a ch when it's released. I have been thinking of such brands as morel, focal, dbl, and polk. Price does matter would like to keep it under 1000. Thanks for any input.Troy

June 25, 200916 yr Processing?Mounting locations? What does the install consist of?3 way + sub, 2 way?Best is a stupid descriptor. Subjectively you might not at all like what I like, perhaps you should be a bit more clear in your thread and you might get some help.
June 25, 200916 yr Author Sorry, right now I have alpine 6.5 type r's in the doors and two boston g5 10"s ported to 44hz, powered by pdx 400.4 and 600.1 it also has the alpine imprint for processing. I'am open to trying about anything better in the doors, possiablty 8"s woofers with a tweeters maybe even 3" mids. Been looking pretty har at the dls speakers and morel's. I listen to mostly rock some country and rap. It's a mazda b4000 excab truck. Edited June 25, 200916 yr by sapp591
June 25, 200916 yr The imprint isn't so useful. What HU?Are you willing to do 8's or not, makes a big difference in the recommendations. Probably going to want to tune that box lower, way lower as well.
June 25, 200916 yr Author The HU is alpine IDX100. I listen to ipod mostly. The imprint helped alot with raising the sound stage along with the highs. I plan on building a new sub box to 32hz. 8's are a possiabity, and I belive that maybe what it really needs, instead of the 6.5 or maybe better quality 6.5 instead. I really don't like the sound of the alpine type r's. I've heard the focals (poly and k2) impressed with the tweeter but not the woofer. I've read alot about morel, dls and polk. Those sound like what, I may be looking for. Thanks for your imput.
June 26, 200916 yr Going with 8's will require all active processing and most likely a 3 way which is a lot to jump into. It sort of depends on how much time/effort you are willing to put into this.
June 26, 200916 yr Author What about 6.5? Is there a brand out there that will give alot better bass than what i'am using now.
June 26, 200916 yr Of course, lots of options nothing special about the R's. It depends a lot on the install though. How are they installed?
June 26, 200916 yr Author Right now the R's are in the stock location in the ft doors (doors are dynomated) with the tweeters located 4 or 5 in above them.
July 7, 200916 yr Author Well I bought a set of Hertz HSK165 comp and all I can say is wow. The bass is better than the alpine R's, but most of all the tweeters sound amazing, not harsh just smooth and warm.
July 7, 200916 yr And if they are just sitting in nearly stock install mounts they can easily get WAY better.

Did you purchase them direct from the company? I never really gave Hertz a long look because I really couldn't find that much pricing info or a dealer for that matter. Seen a couple sets on eBay, but thats about it in the US. I've heard nothing but good things about them I and still wouldn't mind giving them a look before I end up buying some Image Dynamics comps I'm looking at. -Thanks Edited July 7, 200916 yr by Dave305

I don't like to buy to much on the internent because of the counterfit products. I listened to Hertz, Dynaudio, Focal and Polk, for the money and SQ Hertz was the pick for me. Good stuff.

I've figured out now that if I want them new, I can only do this from an authorized dealer. I've already been in email contact with the company and waiting to hear back from them after giving them my location ,zip. Hopefully they can point me to a dealer down here in Miami. Thanks.

Thank for your input on this thread M5.TroWorth looking into what you have done to your stock locations as the install can bear better improvements than switching your comps. Pics and install descriptions go a long way towards getting real help.
